EDITOR’S NOTE: This is a review of Aldi’s classic whole grain white bread. If you’re looking for the Aldi zero net carbs bread, you can find our review here.

Over the last few years, Aldi seems to have become more conscious about health. We’ve noticed that the store has a lot more healthy options than it used to, and we’ve also watched them get rid of things like artificial colors. L’oven Fresh’s Whole Grain White Bread — a Regular Buy item — is very much in line with that trend, and it is a welcome one for a lot of reasons.L'Oven Fresh Whole Grain White Bread

Aldi keeps a decent selection on the bread front: white, wheat, whole grain wheat, and a few more exotic entries through the Special Buy rotation. White bread, one of those choices, is a staple of the American diet, mostly because, for many people, it tastes better than whole grain wheat. The problem is, we now know that white flour is not very good for you. Because of the way it’s processed, fiber and key nutrients are taken out, and what’s left are “bad carbs” that have been associated with obesity and Type 2 diabetes. White flour is in far more places than we realize, but in the case of bread we at least have some options. But let’s be honest — habits are hard to break when taste is involved.

That’s what makes whole grain white an intriguing option. Whole grain white has the nutrients of whole grain but has the texture of white bread … about as close as it gets to the best of both worlds. Several large bread brands have rolled out whole grain white, as well as some grocery brands.

Aldi is one of them. L’oven Fresh Whole Grain White tastes like white bread while containing all the health benefits of whole grain. This reviewer compared Aldi’s whole grain white to a name brand whole grain white and was unable to find any differences in either the nutrition information or the taste, despite there being a nearly 50% difference in price. The bread tastes good, it holds up well, and the shelf life is comparable to its name-brand counterparts.

In other words, it’s one of the coolest things since sliced bread.

The Verdict:

If you like white bread but want whole grain benefits, this is a no-brainer. Highly recommended.

  1. Great place to shop

  2. There white bread is terrible, I have loaf date Mar 1, Jun 1 still fresh and no mold

  3. We’re not Aldi, but you can let Aldi know: http://www.aldi.us/contact/

  4. I don’t usually search the web for random grocery items, but I have to say I have tried a few different loven bread products. Hot dog rolls, bread, hamburger buns, sub rolls. They are some of the worst bread I have ever tasted. The hot dog rolls disintegrate. Usually a good bread adds to the flavor of a sandwich, loven bread doesn’t even taste like bread. It tastes like a mixture of cheap white rice, a ricecake, and sawdust

  5. I love to shop at Aldi but I have not bought their bread. I make my own Keto bread with Almond Flour and add Chia Seeds. Delicious! Much less expensive too and better for you.

    • Would love your recipe

    • Recipe please?

        1 c almond flour
        1/4 c. melted butter
        2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chia seeds (optional) . (You could add garlic or oregano or Italian Herbs also optional.)
Mix everything in a bowl. Stir well. Pour into loaf baking tin lined with parchment paper. Bake 350 for 30 minutes till golden brown. Let it cool. 148 calories. 12 Servings. Enjoy!

  6. I tried the loven fresh Keto bread and it taste really good. It it a little chewy but toasted makes up for it. I now have made this a family choice bread and will continue to buy it for me and my family. Thanks Aldi for caring about your customers needs and wants

  7. Can we order online??

    • Aldi in the US doesn’t currently sell items that you can have shipped online. You can use Instacart to have someone deliver groceries to your home, but that’s not the same.

  8. I would like to know why the zero bread is not sold any more, and why you cant get ahold of anyone in this company,

  9. Is this vegan friendly?

  10. My local Aldi had this bread in 2019, but I haven’t seen it since. I really liked the flavor and that it was dense, as opposed to the normal white which has little flavor and can easily be rolled into a ball!
