Benton’s Breakfast Biscuits

Aldi’s breakfast choices are vast — cereal, cereal bars, eggs, waffles, oatmeal, sausage, bacon, hash browns, and now breakfast biscuits.

Benton's

Benton’s Breakfast Biscuits are not biscuits in the American definition. They are not those fluffy, muffin-like things you bake and serve with butter and jam. Instead, these are more like biscuits in the British sense of the word, which is to say they resemble cookies.

The Regular Buy breakfast biscuits are sold in the cereal and granola bar aisle, and they come in three flavors: Brown Sugar & Cinnamon, Blueberry, and Crispy Oat. They are thin, crispy wafers, similar to a crunchy oatmeal cookie. They have a nice amount of sweetness and good crunch.

They are sold in boxes, with each box containing five packets of biscuits, with four biscuits in each packet. One serving size is four biscuits, so these are individually packaged and would be a good on-the-go quick breakfast that could be easily tucked into a backpack or purse. They also would be handy to take on camping trips. While they are perfectly fine for breakfast, they also make a good snack any time of day.

As far as nutrition goes, these breakfast biscuits provide 19 to 20 grams of whole grains, 4 grams of protein, and are 230 calories per serving. The primary ingredients are enriched flour, sugar, whole rolled oats, whole rolled rye, and whole wheat flour. The blueberry flavor contains real dehydrated blueberries.

There is a lot to like about these breakfast biscuits except, perhaps, for one thing: the sugar content. Sugar is the first ingredient in the Crispy Oat flavor and in the Blueberry flavor (although some of the sugar in the Blueberry flavor is from the blueberries). Sugar is the fifth ingredient in the Brown Sugar & Cinnamon flavor, which seems better. One full serving of any flavor packs 11 to 12 grams of sugar, which is almost half of the daily recommended maximum intake of sugar in a typical woman’s diet.

To be fair, one serving is four whole biscuits, and the portion is pretty good-sized. If you halved your portion and only ate two biscuits, maybe alongside some other foods like eggs or non-sugary cereal, it would make for a fairly balanced breakfast. In our house, the breakfast biscuits probably will be relegated to the role of occasional treats.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s Benton’s Breakfast Biscuits are like eating crispy oatmeal cookies for breakfast, and they are tasty. They come in three flavors — Brown Sugar & Cinnamon, Blueberry, and Crispy Oat — and we like them all. The portion size is generous, and the only downside is the sugar content. At 11 to 12 grams of sugar per serving, we will enjoy these as treats from time to time. They will be great to take on camping trips as a ready-to-eat breakfast or as a snack, but they probably will not be a regular morning staple in our family.

  1. I opened my package of cookies and there were supposed to be 4 full cookies, but there were only three and a half. This just bakes my noodle.

  2. I love these. I work a day job and come in early, so these are a perfect snack to hold me off until my first break.

  3. My wife and I love these biscuits but recently the Aldi’s in our area quit carrying them. Could anyone let us know if they are available to purchase through another outlet?

    • I just discovered them my last time at store around June 15th, 2020 in Columbus, GA.
I bought blueberry and think they are fine. They are sweet but I find it hard to believe it’s 1/2 of my sugar for the day. Yes, it’s a lot to eat, I split my packs up now and they are extra crunchy so I put the open pack in the butter holder at the top of he fridge door. The next go around it’s still crunchy without putting in zip lock just a rubber band to hold close.

  4. I recently purchased a box of the crispy oat breakfast bars. They were very tasty but the texture has a lot to be desired. It was like a mouthful of sawdust. Will not buy again. Will feed mine to our dog 😤

  5. Haven’t seen these in our local VA Aldi’s for a few weeks … VERY disappointing, as they were the perfect go-to with coffee early in the morning. Not sure how Aldi ranks its products, but if they’ve been axed from the shelf it’s a shame. The closest competitor is good but about double the price. Bring ’em back!!!

  6. These are the best breakfast bars by far!! They taste like a fresh blueberry muffin. Absolutely delicious!!

  7. Benton’s Blueberry Breakfast Biscuits are so additive !!!

I tried them looking for an alternative to the Belvitas biscuits. They’re okay and yet for some reason they’re not okay. Yes they smell wonderful as soon as you open the individual packages and they’re great when you dip them into coffee but don’t dip them too long or else you have to go fishing for the biscuit. BelVitas biscuits indeed taste like cookies for some reason these do not I can eat the first two okay but for some reason the third and fourth start to taste like cardboard and I don’t know why. Packaging says that they are made with oats but so are the belvitas. Is there anyone that can help explain this?

  9. I recently purchased the Bentons brown sugar and cinnamon from aldis in my area in East Hartford ct. They are filling and delicious by themselves when you haven’t time to cook. Definitely on my next shopping list.

  10. I’ve tried nabisco Belvita Biscuits, Nature valley biscuits. But I have to say Aldi’s Breakfast biscuits on my favorite. They have the right amount of crunch and The texture is so much better than the rest. My favorite would have to be the cranberry orange. I also like the blueberry and the oat. Not a fan of the brown sugar cinnamon one.Have it with a cup of coffee every morning.
