Earth Grown Vegan Veggie Burger

EDITOR’S NOTE: Read our review roundup of many of Aldi’s vegan Earth Grown products at this link

I’m not a vegan or a vegetarian, but I’ve been sampling Aldi’s new Earth Grown Vegan product line. So far, I’ve liked the Southwest Quinoa Crunch Burgers and the Asian Veggie Burgers. Today I’m looking at the Earth Grown Vegan Veggie Burgers and, unfortunately, these don’t do it for me.

Earth Grown Vegan Veggie Burger

The Earth Grown Vegan Veggie Burger is advertised as a vegan vegetable burger made with 11 vegetables. It’s got 90 calories, 0 grams saturated fat, 290 mg sodium, and 3 grams sugar per serving. It’s a good source of fiber and protein, cholesterol free, and certified vegan by the American Vegetarian Association.

The ingredients are: carrots, peas, whole oats, zucchini, edamame, corn, string beans, spinach, corn meal, onions, potato starch, soy protein flour, organic wheat-free tamari (water, organic soybeans, salt), chickpeas, dried onion, salt, canola oil, red peppers, broccoli, granulated garlic, and parsley.

Now, down to how the veggie burgers taste. They taste like a lot of vegetables all mixed together, and the edamame is whole and very noticeable when eating these burgers. I don’t mind any of that. Veggies are good. It’s the seasoning that is lacking in these burgers, though. While they do contain garlic and dried onion, which help some with flavor, these burgers are pretty bland. I was expecting something better after my positive experiences with the other burgers in the Earth Grown line.

You can prepare the burgers on a skillet or in the oven, deep fryer, or microwave. Skillet heating is the preferred method.

To heat in a skillet, place a burger on a non-stick skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes on each side. I heated my burger on a skillet. Even though I let the skillet preheat for a few minutes, I had to heat the burger for an extra minute on one side to get it heated all the way through.

To heat in the oven, place frozen burgers on a baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes, turning once.

To deep fry, place burgers in the basket for 1-2 minutes until fully heated.

To microwave, place a burger on a microwavable dish and heat on high for about 2 minutes.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s Earth Grown Vegan Veggie Burgers are packed with vegetables, but they taste a bit bland. I won’t be buying these again. If you want a veggie burger that has more flavor, go with some of the other burgers in the Earth Grown product line such as the Southwest Quinoa Crunch Veggie Burger or the Asian Veggie Burger.

  1. Agreed with the burger patties…but we really liked the chicken patties.

  2. I loved these! I can’t comment on the lack of seasoning because I grilled them and added my own seasonings.

  3. Hello! I LOVE the lentil one of this brand and the black bean chipotle burger! I tried the regular veggie burger like the one you did and I hated it! Please give the black bean and lentil ones a try! The lentil one taste like a hash brown and the black bean is very flavorful!!

  4. The Quinoa Crunch is the truth!!

  5. The previous version/brand of this veggie burger was much better. I tried this new one today because Aldi no longer carries the other, and was very disappointed. It tastes like this one is made with a lot more oats, which makes it blah and pasty, and the peas seem dehydrated. I’m returning the rest of the box and will not purchase again. The only thing that made the one I ate palatable was dipping it in sour cream.

  6. I absolutley loved this veggie burger. Love that I see and taste all the veggies in it. I love the low calories and no cholesterol..love love love these..please never stop making them.

    • I freaking love the cheese burger with grill flavor. It was absolutely magnificent. I place my patty on a nonstick pan for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side. I then added some vegan Mozzarella Cheese that Earth Grown sells.

After that I toasted my bread with vegan butter and made a monster burger with fresh tomatoes onions pickles mustard and ketchup.

Compared to Kroger‘s, Walmart, and Whole Foods this is a hands-down burger and the price is absolutely fantastic. I can hardly wait to taste the others.

  7. I enjoyed these more than many others I’ve tried. I do add some savory aioli and salad greens to it; I’m not a fan of plain burgers, whether they’re meat or not.

I thought these burgers wouldn’t be too tasty since they have so many veggies but BOY WAS I WRONG!! Both myself and my husband thought this burger was AMAZING. I made it in the oven for about 15mins for a little crisp, then added lettuce, tomatoes, vegan mayo and ketchup mix, along with sliced avocado and wheat bread. HEAVEN!!!!!!

  9. these used to be 9 veggie, they were delicious & had a good texture. Now they have changed them to 11 veggie, they are mushy & don’t have a good flavor, kind of taste like I would imagine grass tastes like. the old recipe was MUCH better. you know the saying “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

  10. Does anyone know if these burgers are wrapped in plastic? The chicken patties are right in the box with no plastic wrapping which is ideal! Trying to be plastic free (; thank you!

  11. Canola, soy, corn, and wheat in vegan burgers…. gmo? Roundup glyphosate? Wondering cuz I don’t want to get too invested if they aren’t really healthy due to pesticides and frankenfood. I don’t see any contact emails or numbers on the box.
Individually wrapped in plastic is bothersome too.

  12. Probably the most tasteless and unpleasant thing I’ve ever eaten. I tried adding seasonings, but nothing helped. I tossed the rest.

  13. Tasty. Glad to have found them.

  14. Aldi was out of the black bean chipotle burgers (YUM!), so I decided to try these. Taste and texture of mashed peas.

  15. They were ok but tasted like vegetables. More specifically vegetable soup.

  16. Love them plan on buying them every week …. me and my daughter like to eat them ….

  17. Didn’t expect to like them and I was pleasantly surprised. Will be buying again.

  18. Purchased Earth Grown quinoa burgers as they are advertised as Vegan veggie burgers. Nice that they have lots of vegetable ingredients, but read the list carefully;
“May contain milk, eggs, fish.” Not exactly vegan and decided to pass on eating them.

  19. I think they are tasty but I don’t care for them in a burger I like them as a main with sides, tastes great with Ranch.

  20. I wish someone would tell whomever does the packaging that the small white type on orange, yellow and lime green is VERY hard to read. They’re entire line has tiny little cooking instructions
