EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated to reflect the diaper drive for the year 2019.

From September 3 through September 15, 2019, Aldi stores in St. Louis are partnering with the KMOV news channel and the nonprofit The Pooper Troopers to collect diapers for the St. Louis Crisis Nursery.

Diaper drive 2019

Customers who want to donate can visit a participating Aldi store, purchase a package of Little Journey diapers, and place them in the collection bin in the store. (At my local store, the bin is near the doors as you exit.) Other brands of diapers such as Huggies, Pampers, Luvs, or store-brands that are purchased at other stores are welcome as well. Diaper sizes 4, 5, and 6 are especially needed, but any size will be accepted. Diapers at my Aldi stores run between $3.99 for a small pack to $10.99 for a large box.

Donations also can be made by visiting The Pooper Troopers’ website and clicking on an Amazon link that allows diapers to be purchased and shipped directly to the crisis nursery. You can do so at this link.

The St. Louis Crisis Nursery services families in greater St. Louis, St. Charles, southern Illinois, and surrounding regions and needs 150,000 diapers every year. The crisis nursery’s website states that it seeks to prevent child abuse and neglect, and it provides emergency intervention, respite care, and support to families in crisis. Services include short-term care for children in a safe and nurturing environment, resources for support, and advocacy for children and families. Children who come to the crisis nursery can receive a medical exam, therapeutic activities, healthy meals, and necessities to take home. Parents have access to crisis counseling, in-home visits, and parent educational groups. KMOV reports that the St. Louis Crisis Nursery “provides a short-term, safe haven for almost 6,400 children a year, birth through age 12.”

The Pooper Troopers is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission statement is: “Changing the world, one dirty diaper at a time.” Pooper Troopers’ website states, “100% of every donation in the form of diapers and baby accessories benefits the Crisis Nursery.” For more details on the Saint Louis Crisis Nursery, call 314-292-5770 or visit www.crisisnurserykids.org.
