Bake House Crescent Rolls

Aldi’s refrigerated shelves carry a lot of ready-to-bake dough. This includes biscuits of all sizes, cinnamon rolls, and crescent rolls. Today I’m focusing on the Bake House Crescent Rolls.

These are a Regular Buy item that can be found at Aldi year round, and they usually sell for about 99 cents at my local Aldi. They come in the classic tube that you whack on your counter to open. One 8-oz. tube contains eight crescent rolls.

Each roll has 100 calories, 0 grams of trans fat, and non synthetic colors. Each serving also has 5 grams of total fat, 0 mg of cholesterol, 200 mg of sodium, and 2 grams of sugars. One roll also has 4% of your daily value of iron. The rolls are made in Canada.

To bake these, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Unroll the dough and separate into eight triangles. Roll each piece loosely starting with the shortest side of the triangle and curving into a crescent shape. Place the rolls on an ungreased baking sheet about 2 inches apart, and bake on the middle rack for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.

Aldi’s crescent rolls are indistinguishable from name brands such as Pillsbury, and they cost a lot less. I sometimes prepare these as directed on the package, but more often I use the crescent rolls to make pigs in a blanket with hot dogs and cheese slices. I also use the crescent rolls to make breakfast pigs in a blanket — made with scrambled eggs, sausage links, and shredded cheese — and these are a hit whenever I take them to potlucks. The Verdict:

Aldi’s Bake House Crescent Rolls have a taste and texture that is just like pricier name brand crescent rolls. They are good to eat in the traditional way, or use the rolls in other recipes like pigs in a blanket.
