If you’re a wine aficionado, there’s a good chance you’ve heard about Aldi wines, which are pretty inexpensive compared to other outlets. But which Aldi wines are the best? To answer that question, we reached out to Jon Thorsen of the wine review site Reverse Wine Snob. In addition to interviewing him about his site and the Aldi wine scene, we also asked him to pick out five standout Aldi wines.

Giretto Pinot Grigio
“Summertime calls for crisp, refreshing wines and this one fits the bill. Even better, it’s only $5.50. Most Pinot Grigio at this price point is either lifeless, watered down plonk or impossibly sweet. The Giretto avoids both traps and delivers a flavorful wine that goes down easy.”

Grand Mori Valdobbiadene Prosecco
“Like many European wines, the rules and regulations around regions and naming can be really confusing. When it comes to Prosecco one of the main things to know is that the Valdobbiadene region is generally considered to be where the best wines are produced. Aldi’s effort here, at only $10, is a remarkable deal.”

Exquisite Collection Malbec
“My absolute favorite wine at Aldi. For only $7, this is simply an outstanding wine and an excellent example of Malbec. I gave it my highest rating, a Bulk Buy, and it will no doubt find a spot on my year end Top 10 list. Honestly, it’d be hard to buy too much of this one.”

Outlander Meritage Red Wine
“Red blends are one of the most popular categories of wine, especially those that are a bit on the sweet side — wines like Apothic Red or Menage a Trois, for example. The Aldi Outlander Meritage fits right into this category and at only $7.50 competes nicely.”

Leaf Plucker Sauvignon Blanc
“$10 Sauvignon Blanc is pretty common. Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa that was fermented on the grape skins and aged in oak is rather unheard of at this price point. Both of these winemaking techniques impart a level of complexity to the wine that you just don’t normally see in $10 wines.”
