When it’s that time of month, Aldi literally has you covered. The discount grocer sells a variety of feminine hygiene supplies under its private label, Blossom. That includes pads, tampons, and panty liners at bargain prices, so you can get your supplies for Aunt Flo while also picking up the latest goodies in the middle aisle.
I was reminded of just how good of a deal the Aldi feminine hygiene products are when I was vacationing this past summer and had to purchase name-brand Always pads at a regular grocery store, where a typical pack can easily cost at least $5 or $6, versus Aldi pads that run less than $4 for a similar-sized package.
Today, we’re taking a closer look specifically at Blossom Pads from Aldi. These are found in the personal care aisle near the allergy spray, allergy pills, pain relievers, razors, and shampoo. The pads are Regular Buys, which means Aldi sells them all year.
Blossom pads come in several varieties:
- Blossom Ultra Thin Pads with Flexi-Wings, $3.45 for a pack of 36, or not quite 10 cents per pad. (Pictured on the lower left in the photo above.) These compare to Always Regular size 1, which ran about 15 cents per pad at Walmart at the time of writing. The Aldi pads are cotton enhanced and feature Dri-Fit, “a new level of skin health and protection,” with Odor Guard and up to 8 hours of leak protection. The label says these also help combat skin discomfort and feature a breathable outer layer.
- Blossom Ultra Thin Pads Long Super with Flexi-Wings, $3.45 for a pack of 32, or about 11 cents per pad. (Pictured in the lower middle in the photo above.) These compare to Always Long Super size 2, which ran about 20 cents per pad at Walmart at the time of writing. Similar to the other thin Aldi pads mentioned above, these Aldi pads are cotton enhanced and include Dri-Fit, “a new level of skin health and protection,” with Odor Guard and up to 8 hours of leak protection. The label also says these also help combat skin discomfort and include a breathable outer layer.
- Blossom Ultra Thin Pads Overnight with Flexi-Wings, $3.45 for a pack of 28, or about 12 cents per pad. (Pictured on the lower right in the photo above.) These compare to Always Overnight size 4, which cost about 21 cents per pad from Walmart at the time of writing. Similar to both of the other types of thin Aldi pads mentioned above, these Aldi pads are cotton enhanced and include Dri-Fit, “a new level of skin health and protection,” with Odor Guard. These claim to have up to 10 hours of leak protection, rather than 8 hours like the other thin pads described above. The label also says these also help combat skin discomfort and include a breathable outer layer.
- Blossom Multi-Channel Maxi Pads Super with No Wings, $3.39 for a pack of 48, or about 7 cents per pad. (Pictured on the upper right in the photo above.) These compare to Stayfree, which cost about 10 cents per pad at Walmart at the time of writing. These Aldi pads claim multi-channel leakage protection with a cottony soft cover with aloe, and a super absorbent core with Odor Guard.
- Blossom Maxi Pads with Flexi-Wings Overnight, $3.45 for a pack of 28, or about 12 cents per pad. (Pictured on the upper left in the photo above.) These compare to Always Overnight size 4, which cost about 21 cents per pad at Walmart at the time of writing. These advertise quick absorbency with up to 10-hour leak protection with Dri-Fit to promote skin health and protection, plus a breathable outer layer.
- Blossom Maxi-Pads with Flexi-Wings Extra Heavy Overnight, $3.45 for a pack of 20, which costs about 17 cents per pad. (Pictured in the upper middle in the photo above.) These compare to Always Overnight size 5, which cost about 26 cents per pad at Walmart at the time of writing. These compare to Always Overnight size 4. Similar to the other Overnight Maxi Pads mentioned above, these advertise quick absorbency with up to 10-hour leak protection with Dri-Fit to promote skin health and protection, plus a breathable outer layer.
As mentioned earlier, Aldi also sells panty liners and tampons, but I’ll address those in separate posts later.
In my experience, Aldi pads work as well as their name-brand counterparts, and for a fraction of the cost. In terms of absorbency, leak protection, comfort, and avoiding skin irritation, they’re pretty similar. Many of our readers ask if Aldi pads are unscented, and I don’t see anything on the current packaging to indicate one way or another.
It would be interesting to see Aldi offer some sustainable, eco-friendly, lower-waste period solutions such as cups, absorbable period underwear, or washable/reusable cloth-based pads. It seems like it would be well worth it for Aldi to experiment with such products by selling them as limited-time Aldi Finds to gauge how much demand there is. With all the other various medical and personal care products Aldi rotates in under its Welby healthcare private label, I don’t think things like period cups would be too much to hope for at some point. We’ll see.
For now, I’m sold on Aldi pads. And while you’re picking up pads at Aldi, don’t forget to grab the Aldi versions of Ibuprofen or Tylenol for menstrual cramps, too.
The Verdict:
Blossom Pads come in a variety of sizes and thicknesses, with wings or without, and for day or night use. They are comparable to name-brand Always and Stayfree pads, with a much lower price tag. If you use pads, these are well worth a look, and your budget might thank you.
