EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold a gate like this again in October of 2022 and in October of 2023 for the same price of $29.99, with a 30.9″ height and adjustable width: 29.73″ x 32.48″ (35.24″–37.99″ wide with included extension).

If you have young children, or if you have dogs or other pets, it’s possible you may need a gate to keep them out of certain rooms or parts of your home.

In my house, there is no door to block access to the basement stairs, so when my children were little, we installed a walk-through safety gate or baby gate that was screwed into the wall at the top of the stairs to prevent falls. It was one of the most important baby items we purchased, ranking up there with a crib, car seat, and stroller. We used additional baby gates at different times to block access to our home office and other parts of the house.

I also have friends who use safety gates to keep their dogs out of certain rooms (the formal living room or the bedrooms, for example). Or, people might use gates to keep their dogs in a specific room such as the kitchen when no one else is at home.

Whatever you need a gate for, Aldi occasionally sells them. Sometimes Aldi sells safety gates alongside baby and toddler products such as potty seats, board books, and plastic character dishes. At other times, Aldi will stock safety gates with pet accessories such as beds, cat playhouses, pet sweaters, dog chew toys, and more.

What We Know:

Little Journey Safety Gate

The Little Journey Safety Gate (Product Code: 55827) cost $29.99 at the time of publication. That’s a lot less than other walk-through safety gates from retailers such as Amazon.

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that aren’t in stock at your local store.

If you miss out on purchasing the gate this time around, Aldi occasionally sells other gates like this. In 2019, Aldi sold a Little Journey Walk-Through Safety Gate that looks practically identical to this year’s model and had the same price of $29.99. Aldi also has sold a Hauck Safety Gate for $19.99 in 2021, 2020, and 2019.

This particular gate is sold under the Aldi Little Journey private label, which encompasses baby and children’s products at Aldi, including diapers, baby wipes, formula, baby and toddler food and snacks, and more.

Here’s more information about the safety gate, according to Aldi:

  • Gate is pressure mounted; no tools needed for installation
  • Door swings both ways and automatically closes

Because this gate is pressure mounted, you should not place it at the top of a stairway. In that case, you’ll want a gate that is screwed securely into the wall in order to prevent falls. However, this gate would work in other parts of the home if you’re looking to block access to certain rooms.

The 2019 Little Journey Safety Gate had a one-year warranty, so it’s possible the 2022 model may come with a warranty as well, but Aldi has not yet shared that information.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t bought the Little Journey Safety Gate, so we don’t know how sturdy it is or how easy it is to install and use. We write open threads so readers can share about their experiences with products.

  1. We also have open basement stairs. Can you please share a link to which gate you used for that? Thank you!

    • I don’t remember what specific brand of gate we used. It was a few years ago and we no longer own the gate. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

  2. I want to say that we just purchased this gate and it seems great! So, it is for sure a pressure mounted gate, and was a little confusing installing, because the bottom two bolts, dont actually screw into the gate, you just place the bolt in the bottom hole on the left and right side. The top left and right side, the bolt does thread and tighten. So my advice is get those top two bolts even and tight and then try to to the same with the bottom. The one thing I really like about this gate is the mechanism to open and close works very smooth, and it is self closing. There are two notches on the hinge side of the gate at the top of the grey plastic, when you open the gate wide enough to reach one of the notches the gate will stay open in place. I love that feature if you are trying to carry laundry through or you dont actually need to have the room gated, you can leave it in that position and it will stay. It takes no effort to move it out of that position again and it will self close. So a nice feature to have. The pressure mounting bolts have rubbery flat clear grips on the ends, and they supply you with grey plastic caps, stickers to place the caps against the wall, and if you would like, short screws about 1″ long to screw the caps in. This would make the gate a little more sturdy. Potentially the rubbery clear flat grips at the ends of the bolts could slide a little from use over time, you should probably just tighten everything back down once in a while anyways.

    • That’s really helpful info. Thanks for sharing!

    • We recently purchased to keep dogs in one part of the house. I appreciate your comments about the bottom sides not screwing into the gate because we were confused about that as well. However, if you need the extension as we do, it doesn’t screw into that either at the top. Did you find the same?

  3. Hello, and thanks for your review. I purchased a Little Journey walk through safety gate for our grandchildren last week and found that it was not wide enough. Would you know of any compatible brand extensions?
