Authorities arrested a man Thursday who is believed to be the suspect in a series of armed robberies at several Aldi stores across the state of North Carolina, including one robbery that occurred while the suspect wore an Incredible Hulk costume mask.
Lionel Vernard Robinson of Wendell, North Carolina, was charged with one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of entering a premise wearing a mask, four counts of second-degree kidnapping, and four counts of assault by pointing a gun, according to the Kernersville police. He is a suspect in armed robberies at Aldi stores in Kernersville, Fayetteville, Lexington, Rocky Mount, and Indian Trail, all in North Carolina.
Police said that on March 15, 2019, a man wearing a Hulk mask and an orange traffic vest entered Aldi at 819 S. Main Street in Kernersville with a small black handgun. The store was not open yet, but employees were inside getting ready to open it for the day.
Police said the man demanded cash and forced the employees to go into an office. None of the employees were injured. Police said the man got an undisclosed sum of money and left the scene in a black, four-door passenger car.
Robinson is being held in the Cumberland County Jail, according to the police. His bond information was not yet available.
