Appetitos Bacon Mac & Cheese Bites

Aldi sells some pretty good appetizers in the freezer aisle from time to time. From bacon wrapped shrimp to cheese-filled pretzels to taco cups, you can find unique treats at Aldi just about any time of year. Recently, Aldi sold some macaroni and cheese bites in either bacon or buffalo chicken flavors. My family loves macaroni and cheese, so I picked up a box of the bacon mac and cheese bites.

Appetitos Bacon Mac & Cheese Bites

Appetitos Bacon Mac & Cheese Bites cost $3.99 for a 9-ounce box at the time of publication. The package describes these as “tender macaroni pieces, a creamy cheese sauce and bits of bacon in a crispy panko crust.”

These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering after these sell out at your local store.

These are not surprisingly not a health food. They have a lengthy ingredients list, including elbow macaroni, milk, water, bacon, and panko.

If you’re watching out for allergens, these contain egg, milk, and wheat.

There are 12 mac and cheese bites in the box, and 4 bites (85 grams) make up one serving. Four bites contain 230 calories, 11 grams of total fat (14% DV), 3 grams of saturated fat (15% DV), 20 mg of cholesterol (7% DV), 510 mg of sodium (22% DV), 25 grams of total carbohydrates (9% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 1 gram of total sugars, no added sugars, and 7 grams of protein.

The box has directions for baking in the oven, but you could also air fry these. I had some chicken tenders already going in my air fryer, so I baked these in my oven.

To bake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Remove the mac and cheese bites from the package and place them on a lined baking sheet (I used parchment paper) in the center of the oven. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown and thoroughly cooked (to an internal temperature of 165 degrees). Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

These baked up with a crispy outer breading, and inside are plenty of al dente macaroni noodles and cheese. I though these were light on the bacon, with only a few very small pieces in each mac and cheese bite.

The inside of a bacon mac and cheese bite. Not much bacon.

My family members who lean more vegetarian appreciated the lack of bacon, but I thought these were slightly bland because of it. They were fine, and my family ate all of these in one sitting, leaving no leftovers. They appear to be pretty kid friendly, and I might buy them again because everyone liked them.

The Verdict:

Appetitos Bacon Mac & Cheese Bites feature a crispy panko layer on the outside and elbow macaroni and cheese sauce on the inside. They didn’t have as much bacon as we thought they would, but our taste testers still gobbled them up. If you like macaroni and cheese, these might be worth trying.

  1. I purchased the Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese bites and was shorted.
There were only 9 in the package. There are always 12.
