Appetitos Pretzel Bites

Come late January or early February, Aldi starts rotating some interesting appetizers into its limited-edition lineup. In my household, we sometimes call it football food. Whether you’re a football fan or not, there is no denying that food served up during the Super Bowl can be deliciously indulgent. Over the years, I’ve seen Aldi sell football-shaped pizzas, everything bagel franks in a blanket, mac and cheese bites, southwestern rolls, spinach and artichoke dip, and more.

This year, I decided to try some soft pretzel bites from Aldi that are filled with a choice of cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese.

Appetitos Pretzel Bites

Appetitos Pretzel Bites cost $2.45 for a 10-ounce package at the time of publication. Each package contains about five 3-bite servings (60 grams), or about 15 pieces. That comes out to about 16 cents per pretzel bite.

These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time (and Aldi will not ship them to you after they sell out at your local store).

If you’re watching out for allergens, both flavors contain milk and wheat.

The pretzel bites can be heated in a conventional oven or in the microwave. Either way, be careful because the filing may get very hot.

To bake in the oven, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Arrange pretzel bites on a baking sheet and bake 7-10 minutes or until warm.

To microwave, arrange three pretzel bites on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave on high for 25-30 seconds until warm. Let stand one minute before serving.

My family liked both of these pretzel bite varieties, with the cheddar flavor disappearing slightly faster than the pepper jack. They remind me of soft pretzels and cheese dip I’ve bought at stands in the mall. The pretzel bites are soft inside and slightly crisp and chewy outside, with a gooey cheese sauce inside that’s just like the little cups of dip you get to go with your soft pretzel at the mall. They have some funny little dough “tails” on one end resulting from how they were manufactured, but that didn’t bother anyone.
