Baker’s Corner Cheddar Herb Biscuit Mix + Rosemary Garlic Biscuit Mix

Cheesy, herb-flavored biscuits remind me of the biscuits Red Lobster serves. In recent years, I’ve been able to purchase a boxed biscuit mix under the Red Lobster brand name at Aldi and other grocery stores, and it’s pretty much identical to what the restaurant serves. Then, recently I noticed Aldi is selling biscuit mixes under its own Baker’s Corner private label.

Baker's Corner Biscuit Mix

The biscuit mixes come in two flavors. First, there is the classic Baker’s Corner Cheddar Herb Biscuit Mix, which looks similar to the Red Lobster biscuits. Second, there is the Baker’s Corner Rosemary Garlic Biscuit Mix.

The biscuit mixes appear to be Regular Buy items that are available all the time at Aldi. They sold for $1.49 for an 11.36-oz. box at the time of publication, which is cheaper than Walmart’s price for the Red Lobster-brand biscuit mix. One box contains enough for 8 to 10 biscuits, with a few additional ingredients required, including water, cheese, and butter.

The prepared biscuits in both flavors are 200 calories per biscuit, with about 5 grams of saturated fat (25% of your recommended daily value), 15-20 mg of cholesterol (6% DV), and 21 to 22 total grams of carbohydrates (8% DV). The Rosemary Garlic biscuits have more sodium at 440 mg (19% DV) per serving, versus the Cheddar Herb biscuits that have 380 mg (17% DV) per serving.

The biscuit mix boxes include a link to the recipe portion of Aldi’s website, along with photos of recipes like loaded pancakes and dairy free chicken pot pie, but those recipes call for Baker’s Corner All Purpose Baking Mix, which is not the same as these biscuit mixes.

This mix requires three additional ingredients: 3/4 cup water, 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and 1/4 cup butter.

To prepare, preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Stir together water, cheese, and biscuit mix until dough forms. (Do not overmix.)

Scoop dough immediately into 8 to 10 portions (about 1/4 cup) two inches apart onto the prepared baking sheet. Bake 14 to 16 minutes or until golden brown on top.

Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl, add herb blend, and stir until well blended. Spoon or brush 1 teaspoon of herb sauce onto each hot biscuit. Serve immediately.

My family thought these were similar, practically identical, in flavor and texture to the Red Lobster-brand boxed biscuit mix. The biscuits are fluffy on the inside and slightly crisp on the outside, with plenty of buttery, garlicky flavor. These will likely become a staple on nights when we eat seafood.

These biscuits were fine. They have a milder flavor compared to the Cheddar Herb Biscuit Mix, which is interesting considering that the cheddar biscuits have the lower amount of sodium. Which one is your favorite will depend on your taste preferences. These had the same fluffy interior texture as the cheddar variety. My family ate our biscuits with some homemade tomato soup, and some of us enjoyed dunking our biscuits in our soup. They’re good to eat plain, too.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s Baker’s Corner Cheddar Herb Biscuit Mix and Baker’s Corner Rosemary Garlic Biscuit Mix are flavorful and easy to bake up. The Cheddar Herb Biscuit Mix is a good imitation of Red Lobster biscuits, and for less money, and it was my family’s favorite flavor. We also thought the Rosemary Garlic Biscuit Mix was fine, too, although it has a milder flavor.
