Aldi likes to stock little curios that brighten a room. Over the years, I’ve seen the grocer sell everything from letter boards to fairy lights to novelty lamps. These items tend to be small and inexpensive, accenting a space rather than taking it over. They’re especially nice in smaller spaces, be it a dorm room or even the corner of a large office.

Many of these Aldi offerings are sold under the Bauhn label, which Aldi uses worldwide. Bauhn products are typically electronics accessories, from earbuds to phone chargers. Not long ago, I sighted Bauhn light strips in my local store.

Bauhn Color Changing LED Strip Light

The Bauhn Color Changing LED Strip Light (Product Code: 700650) is an Aldi Find. That means you can only find it in stores for a short time, and once it’s gone, it’s gone, at least until it comes back into stores, if ever. At the time of this post, one strip of lights costs $5.99.

The strip is 6.5 feet long, so it comes out to about 92 cents a foot. You can get a cheaper price per foot on Amazon, but you’re going to have to get more feet total — and pay more total — to get it. If you need, say, 30 feet or 50 feet or 100 feet, you’ll want to look elsewhere. But if you only need 6 feet or even 12 feet, one or two of these is going to be a lower bottom-line price tag than buying one of the larger ones out there.

The lights come out of the box with the following:

  • The light strip, attached to a spool
  • A USB connector with remote control receiver
  • An IR remote control
  • An instruction page

The manual has after-sales support contact information: the phone number 1-844-470-7970 or the email address support@productconcern.com. This is the same after-sales support behind the Huntington Home LED Novelty Lamp. There is, however, no warranty.

These lights are pretty straightforward to install. They come with 3M adhesive backing that can be used by removing the paper strip from the back of the lights. In addition, the lights can be trimmed to your desired length by cutting along one of the vertical lines. (Just make sure not to cut your desired strip off from the connector plug.) To power the lights, you attach one end of the LED connector to the lights, then attach the other to a USB power source like a phone charger, USB dock, or laptop. One consideration is that you’ll need to make sure you place the connector end of the lights close to a power source, as the connector cord is only a couple of feet long.

The strip is controlled entirely by a remote. (Some light strips let you control the lights with Bluetooth, but this is not one of them.) The remote lets you turn the lights on and off, adjust the brightness, change the color, or even set up rotating colors using special effects. It’s pretty intuitive to use and looks identical to some of the remotes I saw on Amazon. The remote is powered by a replaceable CR2025 button battery.

The Verdict:

The Bauhn Color Changing LED Strip Light is a simple, affordable light strip that comes with a couple of bells and whistles, including some neat-looking color-changing functions. The total price is as low as anything I can find, but it’s also only 6.5 feet, so if you need a lot more light, you can get longer strips at a lower price per foot elsewhere. It’s all about your needs.

  1. These were GREAT to light up the underside of my telescope table. Made it look UFO-ish with the changing colors and I was able to dim them to a suitable level.

Lasted about 2 hrs with a very small USB battery pack.

  2. I made one of those “minimalist corner LED lamps” you see in ads on and Amazon for $50+. I made my own using 2 cheap IKEA floor lamps off FB marketplace for $8. (Total cost $13.99 + tax).

  3. It looks like there’s an update to this item. It still has the same part number, but it is now app controlled as it says so on the front of the package. It does not say anywhere on the box if it works with Bluetooth or WiFi, but after reading the instruction sheet, I found that it works with Bluetooth through the Tuya Smart app. The four bullet point on the front of the package are as follows:
    • HUNDREDS OF COLORS
    • MUSIC SYNC
    • 10 SCENE LIGHTING SETTINGS
    • 6.5FT LIGHTED AREA
    (198.12 CM. LIGHTED AREA)
I could not find any reference to this version online, so I thought I’d let you know about it.

    • Did you get it working? i can’t seem to get the app to connect to the lights on my samsung tablet. It meets minimum specs but it won’t connect.

      • A follow up- My neighbor’s iPhone works for this immediately. Disappointing that I can’t seem to get it going on the Android tablet.

        • I finally had a chance to try it on both operating systems. After setting it up on my iOS device, it was in the Android version of the Tuya Smart app after I logged in and after an initial loading period, I was able to control the light strip without having to pair with it. Which Samsung tablet do you have?

        • Can someone pls tell me the name of the iPhone app to control the lights. I can’t seem to find the remote and we just set them up in my daughters room. I can’t seem to find the app.

          • If your version came with a remote, then you have the first version that isn’t app controlled. My app controlled version doesn’t come with a remote.

  4. What is the app this is compatible with?

  5. Yes, uses an app. There is no remote included. Took me a while to configure and I found pairing finally, when I stood right next to the wiring. Really cool for cheap.
