EDITOR’S NOTE: See our update toward the end of this post for our experience with the warranty service.

I’ve been working on fixing up our backyard before we host small family gathering this summer. My husband and I took down the old rusting swing set that didn’t get much use anymore, and I built a new raised garden bed in its place. We added some nice Adirondack chairs around our fire ring. We recently bought a hose pot to corral our garden hose that was coiled on the patio. The only thing that was missing was an umbrella for our patio table to help ward off the mid-day sun’s intense rays.

Because Aldi does a great job of selling what we need exactly when we need it, it was perhaps no surprise that I found a patio table umbrella at Aldi recently.

Belavi 7.5 Foot Umbrella

The Belavi 7.5 Foot Umbrella cost $39.99 at the time of publication. That’s within the range of similar-sized patio umbrellas on Amazon. (I picked my Aldi umbrella up on clearance for $19.99, but clearance prices appear to be at store managers’ discretion, so every store may be different about if or when Aldi Finds are clearanced.)

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

Here’s more information about the umbrella:

  • Available in Cascade, Tawny Orange, or Meteorite colors
  • Measures 90″ D x 87.6″ H
  • Push-up style canopy is UV and weather/water-resistant
  • Features a sturdy, powder-coated steel frame
  • Made in China

The umbrella comes with a one-year warranty serviced by TDC USA, Inc, which is a global trading supplier. TDC has provided warranty service for other Aldi products such as the Belavi 2-Pack Padded Rockers, the Belavi Grill Gazebo, and the Belavi Pergola.

What comes inside the bag.

The umbrella is sold packaged inside a cloth storage bag. Inside the bag are the umbrella, a lower pole, and a small slip of paper with information about warranty and after-sales support.

The umbrella comes with a small tag with care instructions. The instructions state that one of the best ways to keep the umbrella canopy looking good is to delay deep or vigorous cleaning to properly maintain the fabric. This can be done by simply brushing off dirt before it becomes embedded in the fabric, wiping up spills as soon as they occur, or spot cleaning soon after stains occur.

Using the Umbrella:

This umbrella comes with no instructions, but it’s fairly easy to set up. Simply remove it from its bag and attach the lower pole to the upper pole that contains the umbrella frame. This model does not have a crank to open the umbrella, so you open it by pushing up on the frame until it locks into place.

It’s a nice-looking umbrella, and I especially like the turquoise/green color. It’s also a good size for our patio table, which seats four people.

The only drawback was when I went to use the tilt feature. Again, there are no directions for using the umbrella, but I noticed a small button halfway up the frame pole, so I pushed it and it unlocked the tilt feature so I could bend the umbrella at a slight angle. However, I couldn’t get the umbrella out of the tilt position after that. The button remains depressed and will not move. My husband and I both wrangled with the umbrella and tried to unstick the tilt button, to no avail.

The paper inside the umbrella bag with warranty information from TDC encourages customers not to return faulty products to the store, instead recommending contacting TDC’s customer service department. There is both a phone number and an email address. I wrote to the email address and briefly explained my problem with the umbrella. TDC responded within an hour with a link to their website where I could file a warranty claim and request a new umbrella frame. I filled out the required information, including submitting my mailing address and a photo of my receipt for proof of purchase.

At this point, I’m waiting to hear back from TDC. I’ll update this post with new developments.

UPDATE (7/1/2022) — I received a new umbrella frame in the mail within 9 business days after contacting TDC, and one day before we hosted our family gathering. Other than having to wait a little for a replacement, this warranty company was easy to work with.

It was easy to remove the cloth canopy from the defective frame and install it on the replacement frame. Simply unscrew the decorative cap on top of the old frame, and slip the canopy off each individual spoke on the frame to remove the canopy (the canopy has small pockets for the umbrella frame spokes). Then slip the canopy over the top of the new frame, add the old decorative cap from the defective frame, and slip the canopy pockets onto the new frame spokes. The bottom pole for the umbrella was a tight fit going into the new frame — tighter than with the original frame — and I wasn’t sure it was going to fit, but with some jiggling we made it work.

The tilt feature works on my new frame. It’s easy to tilt and lock into position, and it’s just as easy to put it back into the upright position. Some handy fabric straps on the outside of the canopy allow you to tie up and secure the canopy when not in use.

I still need to purchase an umbrella stand, which Aldi sometimes sells but did not stock at the time I purchased the umbrella.

The Verdict:

The Belavi 7.5 Foot Umbrella is a good-looking umbrella that could be a nice addition to any patio table. Our umbrella got stuck in the tilt position the first time we used it, so we worked with the company that services the warranty and were able to get a replacement frame that works well.

  1. Thanks for your review Rachael!
I purchased the exact same umbrella and can’t figure out how to keep it opened with out tilting! I see a red “catch” above the tilt button, but the umbrella won’t slide up to latch on. Is there a way to open and secure open without tilting?
