Belmont Ice Cream

Belmont Ice Cream

Aldi sells several tiers of ice cream in its freezer section, from novelty Ben & Jerry’s knockoffs to ice cream flavors made with simple ingredients and even keto ice cream. One of the more budget ice cream options at Aldi is the Belmont brand.

Belmont Ice Cream cost $1.95 for a 1.5-quart (1.42L) carton at the time of publication. The same size carton of Breyers ice cream cost $4.59 at Target at the time of publication, while the Target’s Market Pantry brand ice cream cost between $2.79 and $3.89 for a 1.5-quart carton.

At the time of writing, Belmont ice cream was available in my local stores in seven flavors: vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream, chocolate chip cookie dough, Moose Tracks, mint chocolate chip, and butter pecan. I also recently spotted a 1/2 fat version of the vanilla ice cream, although I’ve never tried it.

These flavors are Regular Buys, which means they’re in Aldi stores year round. Aldi does rotate other seasonal Belmont flavors in for a limited time throughout the year as Aldi Finds, including egg nog and peppermint bark ice creams during the holidays.

The cartons state that the ice cream contains no high fructose corn syrup. That does not mean these ice creams are healthy (what ice cream is, really?), and unlike Aldi’s Specially Selected Super Premium ice cream line that is made with whole and simple ingredients, these Belmont ice cream flavors contain processed ingredients and additives such as corn syrup, soy lecithin, locust bean gum, guar gum, carrageenan, and natural flavors. One thing this Belmont ice cream has going for it is that it’s lower in calories and fat and has a larger serving size compared to the Specially Selected Super Premium ice cream, but you’ll have to decide whether that trade-off in ingredients is worth it.

Still, if you’re looking for some classic flavors and some ice cream with add-ins such as cookie pieces, cookie dough, or peanut butter cups, this Belmont ice cream can satisfy that craving, and the ingredients are comparable to familiar grocery store brands like Breyers, Deans, Edy’s, etc.

Here’s a closer look at most of the flavors (except for butter pecan because we have family members who can’t eat nuts because of orthodontic treatment, and we didn’t try the reduced fat vanilla either):

Belmont Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

This ice cream has real vanilla beans (ground vanilla bean specks) that you can easily see. While most of my family is accustomed to eating vanilla ice cream with something else (pie, brownies, apple crisp, etc.), this is surprisingly good enjoyed plain, and we were able to fully appreciate the vanilla flavor. While the Belmont vanilla tastes good, I’ll probably stick with buying the other vanilla option at Aldi — Specially Selected Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream — because even though it’s higher in calories and fat, it’s a more traditional ice cream that uses simple ingredients such as cream, milk, vanilla extract, and sugar instead of corn syrup and gums. However, this Belmont vanilla is not bad if you need an inexpensive vanilla ice cream.

A 2/3-cup serving of the Belmont Vanilla Bean Ice Cream has 180 calories, with 9 grams of total fat (12% DV), 22 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), and 13 grams of added sugars (26% DV). If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk and may contain peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, and eggs.

Belmont Chocolate Ice Cream

This flavor is rich, creamy, and decadent just like you’d expect chocolate ice cream to be. I don’t often buy plain chocolate ice cream like this, but if I do, I’ll probably buy the other chocolate ice cream Aldi sells — Specially Selected Super Premium Chocolate Ice Cream — because, as mentioned above, it’s a more traditional ice cream that contains simple ingredients such as cream, milk, and sugar rather than corn syrup and gums.

The Belmont Chocolate Ice Cream comes in at 190 calories per 2/3-cup serving, with 10 grams of total fat (13% DV), 23 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), and 14 grams of added sugars (28% DV). People with allergies should be aware it contains milk and may contain peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, and eggs.

Belmont Cookies and Cream Ice Cream

This consists of cookies and cream-flavored ice cream with chocolate cream sandwich cookie pieces. A family favorite, this is creamy with plenty of cookie bits swirled in.

A 2/3-cup serving has 200 calories, with 10 grams of fat (13% DV), 26 grams of total carbohydrates (9% DV), and 15 grams of added sugars (30% DV). If you’re watching out for allergens, it contains milk, wheat, and soy, and it may contain peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs.

Belmont Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

This consists of vanilla ice cream with chocolaty chunks and chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough. It’s more generous on the chocolaty chunks than the cookie dough pieces, but it still has a decent amount of cookie dough and tastes comparable to other brands.

One 2/3-cup serving has 220 calories, with 11 grams of total fat (14% DV), 29 grams of total carbohydrates (11% DV), and 18 grams of added sugars (36% DV). If you’re avoiding allergens, it contains milk, wheat, and soy, and it may contain peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs.

Belmont Moose Tracks Ice Cream

This consists of vanilla ice cream with peanut butter cups and “Famous Moose Tracks Fudge.” It tastes like other brands of Moose Tracks ice cream I’ve gotten from regular grocery stores, with rich waves of fudge and a decent amount of mini peanut butter cups.

A 2/3-cup serving has 240 calories, with 14 grams of total fat (18% DV), 26 grams of total carbohydrates (9% DV), and 17 grams of added sugars (34% DV). If you’re looking out for allergens, this contains milk, peanuts, and soy, and it may contain tree nuts, wheat, and eggs.

Belmont Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

This consists of mint ice cream with chocolate chips. Like all Aldi private label, in-house brands, this ice cream contains no artificial colors. In other words, this is not green like you sometimes see with mint chocolate chip ice cream. It’s white ice cream with a generous sprinkling of chocolate flakes. This went over well in our house and was among our favorite flavors, although, really, they’re all tasty.

A 2/3-cup serving has 200 calories, with 11 grams of total fat (14% DV), 24 grams of total carbohydrates (9% DV), and 15 grams of added sugars (30%). If you’re concerned about allergens, this contains milk and soy, and it may contain peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, and eggs.

The Verdict:

Belmont Ice Cream is an inexpensive option if you’re looking for popular flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough, Moose Tracks, cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, and butter pecan. Ice cream purists may not like that these contain ingredients such as corn syrup and gums, but for most of these flavors, the ingredients are comparable to other familiar brands like Dean’s, Breyers, and Edy’s.

  1. Belmont Ice Cream sucks ..it’s more like Ice milk .

  2. Is it halal?

  3. I’m eating a bowl of Belmont Moose Tracks ice cream as I type this. OMG it is good, especially if you let it melt a little before eating.

  4. I am addicted to the Thank you Cherry much ice cream. I wish it came in larger containers so I can share. I have 5 Aldi’s around my area and I have bought ALL of their cherry ice cream.

  5. Just had a bowl of Peaches and Cream and topped with whipped cream. I must say family and I owned an ice cream shop in Md. For some years and this ice cream is as good if not better than some top brands. The taste and texture are spot on. And even the peaches were very real and authentic flavor. Any bad views must not be willing to step out of pricey name brands. Great product Belmont.

  6. Outstanding ice cream! Better than many more expensive brands with a great price. Love it!!!

  7. I buy at least one Belmont chocolate Ice cream every week..We love the texture the creamy taste and the cocoa flavor it’s not to sweet at a great price..
    ‐‐——– ———- ———
BUT yesterday we were surprised: The ice cream had a totally different taste as if it was watered down..even the cocoa flavor was non existing..I checked the expiration date thinking something is off..It was good!
Just wondering if the recipe changed? We Will not buy It again and will not suggest to my friends either

  8. Belmont is an extremely good ice cream, and at $1.95 a gallon it’s one of the best deals at Aldis. Some varieties of Belmont ice cream are better than others though. The vanilla is excellent, and at 140 calories per serving a very satisfying lo-cal dessert option. The chocolate is a bit “icy” and not as rich as the vanilla. Butter pecan is good. The Caramel Swirl is super good!

  9. I’d like to try this brand but I have yet to see a safety seal on a carton. It’s 2023, this should be the norm.
