Benton’s Lemon Créme Filled Cookies

I have always enjoyed lemon-based or lemon-flavored foods. I like to make homemade lemonade, and I sometimes order lemon meringue ice cream at my favorite ice cream parlor. I also won’t turn down a good lemon bar. So when Aldi sold lemon sandwich cookies for a limited time recently, I took a flier.

Benton's Lemon Créme Filled Cookies

Benton’s Lemon Créme Filled Cookies cost $1.95 for a 15.25-ounce package at the time of publication.

These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials, so once these sell out at your local store, they’re gone.

One package contains about 30 cookies. With two cookies constituting one serving, that makes about 15 servings per package. Two cookies (29 grams) will net you 150 calories, 7 grams of total fat (9% DV), 2.5 grams of saturated fat (13% DV), 75 mg of sodium (3% DV), 21 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), and 12 grams of added sugars (24% DV).

Ingredients include sugar, enriched flour, palm and soybean oil, high fructose corn syrup, cornstarch, salt, natural and artificial flavor, sodium bicarbonate, soy lecithin, citric acid, and beta carotene (color).

In other words, these aren’t a health food.

If you’re watching out for allergens, these contain soy and wheat. They may contain eggs, milk, tree nuts (pecans, almonds, and coconut), and peanuts.

Benton's Lemon Créme Filled Cookies

These are the latest of several varieties of seasonal sandwich or crème cookies Aldi has sold over the past year, with other limited-edition cookies including hot cocoa crémes that were sold only during the winter, and pumpkin spice crème cookies and caramel apple crémes that were both sold only during the fall. The hot cocoa crémes were a favorite of mine, and these lemon crémes rank highly in my opinion as well.

Benton's Lemon Créme Filled Cookies

These lemon cookies feature crisp cookies with a very soft, tangy, lemony, sweet filling. The filling squishes out when you bite into the cookie, but no one in my house minded that. The package says these cookies are “great for dipping.” I guess you could dip them in milk like with Oreos, but they’re very good on their own. These didn’t last long in my house. If I spot them at my local Aldi again, I might stock up on a package or two to save and enjoy during summer picnics and road trips.

The Verdict:

Benton’s Lemon Créme Filled Cookies are crisp and sweet with a soft and tangy lemon-flavored filling. If you like lemons, these are worth dropping in your cart on your next shopping trip.

  4. I LOVE those lemon cookies and was SO sad when I saw that they were only there for a limited time. I should have bought 20 packages of them when I had the chance.

  5. these cookies are to die for, lemon is an all season ingredient, these should be a staple at Aldi’s. Wish I had known I would have bought a case at the time.
