Casa Mamita Corn Masa Bites

If you want to have a Cinco de Mayo dinner, or just a really good Taco Tuesday, you can get everything you need at Aldi. The discount grocer sells taco fixings year round, including a variety of tortillas, crunchy taco shells, taco seasoning, salsa, and all the other taco fixings.

But Aldi also rolls out several limited-edition Mexican or Tex-Mex options in time for Cinco de Mayo. Recent fun finds include mini empanadas, street tacos, and these corn masa bites.

Casa Mamita Corn Masa Bites

Casa Mamita Corn Masa Bites cost $4.79 for a 10.5-ounce box at the time of publication. They come in Carne Asada or Chicken & Cheese flavors.

These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials, so once these sell out at your local store, they’re gone.

Masa is a dough made with ground corn, and it’s used to make corn tortillas, tamales, gorditas, and other Latin American foods. These corn masa bites from Aldi are basically bite-sized balls of stuffed corn bread. The breading is slightly crispy on the outside and softer on the inside, with a chicken or beef filling.

These not surprisingly have a few processed ingredients, but not as many as I might have guessed (pictures of the full ingredients lists are posted below). If you’re watching out for allergens, both varieties contain milk.

These can be heated in a conventional oven or a convection oven.

To prepare in a conventional oven, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Place bites one inch apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until thoroughly heated.

Most people in my family liked this variety best because it’s more flavorful, but it also has some mild spiciness to it, so if non-spicy food is a priority for you then you might prefer the beef flavor instead. The chicken bits in this flavor are small, but there is a good amount of cheese. These are decent and I might consider buying them again.

One family member said these were their favorite of the two types of corn masa bites because they aren’t spicy, but everyone else felt these were on the bland side. They have a good amount of beef filling, but not a lot of flavor, and they don’t seem to have much cheese. They’re not bad, but I wouldn’t buy these again.

The Verdict:

Casa Mamita Corn Masa Bites come in Chicken & Cheese or Carne Asada flavors. They’re small bites of corn bread stuffed with chicken or beef filling, cheese, and seasonings. They make a fun addition to a Cinco de Mayo dinner, a good appetizer as part of a larger meal, or a nice lunch on their own. We like the Chicken & Cheese variety, but we found the Carne Asada variety a little short on flavor.

  1. I found these at an Aldi’s in Knoxville TN and love them. It’s hard to find things that are made with masa in the stores.

  2. I loved both flavors
