Chef’s Cupboard Buttery Homestyle Mashed Potatoes

Sometimes you need easy. Aldi’s Special Buy (ALDI Find) Chef’s Cupboard mashed potatoes are an incredibly easy option when you need a quick side dish to go with dinner. They’re also a good easy topping for dishes like shepherd’s pie.

Chef's Cupboard Buttery Homestyle Mashed Potatoes

These mashed potatoes come in a few flavors, including a cheesy flavor, a loaded baked potato flavor, and the buttery homestyle flavor I opted to try. The main ingredient in these mashed potatoes is Idaho potatoes, but, not surprisingly, these are very processed with a lot of extra ingredients and preservatives. Homemade mashed potatoes made with plain potatoes, butter, milk, salt, and pepper are obviously the healthiest choice. If you don’t have time for homemade, though, these are quick and inexpensive substitute.

The potatoes are grown in Idaho and contain no synthetic colors. The buttery homestyle flavor nets you 110 calories, 3 grams of fat (15% DV), 470 mg of sodium (20% DV), and 1 gram of sugar. You need no special ingredients to prepare the mashed potatoes; all you do is add water.

To prepare, you need 2 cups of water. You also have two options for preparation: the stove top or the microwave.

To prepare on the stove top, heat 2 cups of water to a boil in a 2-quart saucepan. Pour the 2 cups of boiling water into a serving bowl, add the contents of the potato pouch, and stir with a fork to moisten all the potatoes. (I actually poured the contents of the potato pouch directly into my saucepan and stirred to moisten the potatoes. This seemed to work just as well.) Let the mashed potatoes stand for about 1 minute until liquid is absorbed. Stir and serve.

To prepare in the microwave, heat 2 cups of water to a boil in a microwave-safe bowl. Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir in the contents of the potato pouch. Let stand about 1 minute until liquid is absorbed. Stir and serve.

The package instructs that for creamier or thicker texture, you can add more or less water.

The Verdict:

Homemade mashed potatoes are always the best, but if you don’t have time for homemade, Aldi’s Chef’s Cupboard Buttery Homestyle Mashed Potatoes are a suitable substitute. They also come in a few other flavors such as cheesy or loaded baked potato.

  6. We started getting these about a month ago to try instead of the bob evans refrigerated mashed potatoes which were never the same texture and tasted different every time…………so far super happy with all the flavors we have tried of the chef’s cupboard potatoes…..also super easy to make just boil water and add pouch (though we do 3 or 4 pouches at a time for our family size)…..These have good flavor and texture are not runny or thick like playdough like other brands when you follow instructions!!!!
