Clancy’s Texas Seasoned Tortilla Chips

A flood of Tex-Mex style foods hits Aldi shelves around this time of year. It’s all part of the discount grocery store’s observance of Cinco de Mayo on May 5th. You’ll see more traditional Mexican dishes such as fajitas kits, empanadas, and street taco kits. You’ll also see some products that may not be quite as authentic but still pair well with Mexican-inspired food. That includes some unique ravioli options and the new street corn dipper chips at Aldi, and it also includes some “Texas Seasoned” tortilla chips.

Clancy's Texas Seasoned Tortilla Chips

Clancy’s Texas Seasoned Tortilla Chips cost $2.99 for a 20-ounce bag at the time of publication.

These are an Aldi Find, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. You can’t order them online from Aldi if they aren’t in stock at your local store.

Ingredients are: corn, vegetable oil (canola, corn, cottonseed, safflower, and/or soybean oil), sea salt, black pepper, lime zest, garlic powder, paprika, and cumin seed. The bag also states the chips are stone ground.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain milk. They are gluten free.

Nutritionally, these are what you’d expect with seasoned tortilla chips. There are about 20 one-ounce servings per bag. One serving (28 grams, or about nine chips) has 130 calories, 5 grams of total fat (6% DV), 1 gram of saturated fat (5% DV), 95 mg of sodium (3% DV), 17 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), and no added sugars.

Clancy's Texas Seasoned Tortilla Chips

These are classic tortilla chips with a light coating of seasonings and a mild flavor. Unlike the street corn-flavored dippers Aldi introduced around the same time these tortilla chips showed up in stores, these Texas Seasoned chips are not spicy. They have just a hint of garlic and cumin flavor, with a little salt. The lime zest is hardly noticeable.

These chips are decent on their own, but their mild flavor makes them ideal to serve with guacamole, salsa, or some of the other dips Aldi sells, including Park Street Deli Street Corn Dip or Park Street Deli Mexicali Dip. These would also make a good base for loaded nachos.

The Verdict:

Clancy’s Texas Seasoned Tortilla Chips feature a dusting of a mild seasoning mix that includes sea salt, black pepper, lime zest, garlic powder, paprika, and cumin seed. These aren’t spicy, and they’re good to eat alone or to serve with various dips, or use them to make nachos.
