There’s no doubt about it. As Aldi has expanded across the United States, opening new stores and cultivating new dedicated customers who love finding deals, the discount grocer has become a bit of a cult. People really like Aldi. It shows in the fan groups that have popped up on social media, and in the popularity of certain products such as wine Advent calendars and “red bag” chicken. It’s now a thing for Aldi shoppers to carry their own keychain quarter holders so they always have a coin ready to rent a shopping cart.

Aldi is capitalizing on its own popularity by offering a limited-time Aldi Gear Capsule Collection. This is a line of Aldi-branded products ranging from sandals to pajamas to socks to keychains to pet toys.

Among the Aldi swag options are some stylish hydration bottles featuring double-walled insulation, complete with the Aldi logo prominently displayed. My family uses double-walled metal water bottles frequently at school, work, on outings, and when camping. So I decided to pick up a water bottle to try so we could get in on the Aldi “fandemonium.”

Crofton Double Wall Stainless Steel Bottle

The Crofton Double Wall Stainless Steel Bottle (Product Code: 706017) cost $8.99 at the time of publication. That’s cheaper than a lot of other stainless steel bottles of similar size. These bottles are sold under the Crofton label, which is an Aldi house brand that includes all kinds of kitchen products and cookware.

The bottles are Aldi Finds, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. You can’t order these online if they’re out of stock at your local store.

Here’s more information about the bottle, according to Aldi:

  • Features a 25-ounce capacity
  • Keeps beverages hot up to 6 hours and cold up to 12 hours
  • Double-wall insulated stainless steel bottle keeps beverages hotter or colder for longer
  • Available in Solid Teal, Solid Lavender, ALDI All Day, or ALDI Rainbow Squares
  • Hand wash only
  • Features a BPA-free lid
  • Made in China

Aldi sold two different Aldi-branded bottles, and I opted for the Rainbow Squares bottle with the more subtle Aldi logo printed on it.

These bottles are large, at least on the outside, and they taper down slightly, being somewhat narrower at the bottom than they are at the top. The metal and plastic lid has a low profile, and it doesn’t offer as much to grip as some other water bottles I own, but it’s adequate. The mouth of the bottle is wide enough to easily add ice cubes to your drink, but it’s not as big as some other bottles I own.

The bottom of my water bottle with the misaligned rubber base.

Once I got the bottle home, I realized it had a potential flaw. The bottle has a rubber or plastic base with the Crofton logo glued onto the bottom, presumably to help stabilize it. On my bottle, the base was not centered properly, so my bottle had a bit of a tilt to it.

A slightly tipsy water bottle. Notice how the black base doesn’t fully cover the right side of the bottle here.

I thought I’d have to return the bottle to my local Aldi for a refund and possibly look for a new one, but I noticed the rubber base was actually fairly easy to peel off. It’s like a sticker.

I stuck it back on the base of my bottle but made sure it was centered this time.

With the rubber base re-centered on the bottom of the bottle.

I pressed firmly, and it appears to be staying on for now. I’m not sure how long the base will keep its stickiness, especially after a lot of use and being washed. It can probably be easily glued back on, with the right type of glue. It seems like this bottle would still be functional even without the rubber base, though. There was little to no sticky residue on the bottle’s base when I peeled it off, and the bottle seemed to be stable. None of the other metal water bottles I own have had a rubber sticker base like this.

With the problem with the base hopefully resolved, this looks like a nice water bottle and I’m looking forward to using it. I have noticed it has more of a metallic taste when I drink from it compared to other metal water bottles, but that’s not a deal breaker. I’ll update this post with any new developments.

The Verdict:

The Crofton Double Wall Stainless Steel Bottle is a fun piece of swag that is part of the Aldi Gear Capsule Collection. It’s ideal for devoted Aldi fans. This looks like a good, sturdy bottle, and we like the fact that it’s double insulated so it won’t sweat and will keep drinks hot or cold for longer. We had a minor issue with the rubber sticker base not being correctly aligned, but we think we were able to fix that. If you buy this, don’t forget to pick up other Aldi fan products in the Gear Capsule Collection such as socks and pajamas with the Aldi logo printed on them.
