EDITOR’S NOTE 1: Aldi sold this set for $9.99 in August of 2023, which is $5 less than what we purchased the set for in the spring of 2022. This is part of a trend we’ve noticed during the past year of Aldi dropping prices on many Aldi Finds.

EDITOR’S NOTE 2: We’ve updated the post below with information on how these canisters have held up to regular use.

I’ve kept an ongoing supply of individually wrapped tea bags in cookie jar-style canisters on my kitchen counter for years. The jars are where we go to find classics such as English Breakfast tea, Earl Grey tea (regular and decaf), and green tea. I mostly stock the jars with different types of black tea, with the green tea in a separate jar, to avoid crossing up flavors or scents, and I keep my stronger-scented mint or cinnamon teas in their original boxes in my pantry. Anyway, my current tea jars are almost 20 years old, so when I saw Aldi selling some stylish glass canisters with lids, I decided to give my countertop tea nook an update.

Crofton Glass Canisters with Acacia Wood Lids

Crofton Glass Canisters with Acacia Wood Lids cost $14.99 at the time of publication. That’s less than a lot of similar sets I spotted on Amazon.

These are an Aldi Find, so they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials if they aren’t in stock at your local store. If you miss out on purchasing these, Aldi tends to sell glass canisters like these — or very similar ones — once a year or so. I know this is not the first time I’ve seen Aldi offer these kinds of containers.

Here’s more information on the glass canisters with lids:

  • Six-piece set includes one 52-fluid-ounce canister, one 45-fluid-ounce canister, one 26-fluid-ounce canister, and three lids
  • All canisters include a wooden lid with silicone gasket that creates an airtight seal to keep contents fresh for longer
  • Canisters are made with clear glass construction, perfect for storing pasta, nuts, coffee beans, and more
  • BPA free
  • Dishwasher safe (glass only)
  • Microwave safe (glass only)
  • Canisters can also be used as a stylish storage solution in other rooms of the home, including the bathroom, bedroom, or home office
  • Made in China

Before using them, you’ll want to wash the canisters and lids in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse well, and towel dry thoroughly. The small care instruction sheet that comes with the canister set states you can remove the silicone seals from the lids for cleaning.

Tea-making supplies. The individually wrapped tea bags give an idea of each canister’s size. You can also see the silicone gasket on each lid.

This set looks really nice on my countertops, and they feel pretty solid. The canisters don’t have as large of a footprint compared to my old cookie jar-style containers. These have a slim profile, and if you’re using them in the kitchen, they are best for holding smaller amounts of food such as pasta, nuts or seeds, coffee, tea, chocolate chips, or candy. If you want canisters to hold baking supplies such as flour and sugar, you’ll want something bigger than these.

The gaskets on the lids seal these canisters pretty well, but I’m not sure they’re as airtight as a container with a lid that snaps or screws on. Since I’m storing wrapped tea bags in these, I’m not sure I’ll put the airtight claim to a thorough test.

Overall, these give my kitchen a sleek updated look, and I appreciate that I can see the contents inside the canisters. I’d buy these again.

UPDATE (8/14/2023) — I’ve gotten compliments about how these look on my kitchen counter, and I actually bought a second set to hold more tea bags, for a total of six canisters. The only downside is that after a few months, one of the smallest canisters cracked from top to bottom on the side when I was getting a tea bag out one day. The glass is thin, so I’m not completely surprised it cracked. The canister is still usable, and I hide the crack by keeping it turned toward the back, but it’s a bit disappointing.

The Verdict:

Crofton Glass Canisters with Acacia Wood Lids feature three different-sized glass canisters each with their own wood lid with a silicone gasket for an airtight seal. The canisters have a slim, modern profile and are good for holding small food items or other things around the house. We use them to hold tea bags. Our only disappointment is that one of the canisters cracked after a few months of use.
