Crofton Mini Casserole Set

EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold mini casserole sets again in March of 2024 for the same price of $9.99.

While most baking or cooking projects can be done using large casserole dishes, sometimes I need something smaller to do the job. If I’m only cooking for one or two people, or if I’m baking frozen individual serving blocks of French onion soup or broccoli cheddar soup in the oven, I need a small oven-safe bowl or dish.

So when I saw mini casserole dishes in the Aldi ad recently, I decided to try them.

Crofton Mini Casserole Set

The Crofton Mini Casserole Set cost $9.99 at the time of publication for a pack of two mini casserole dishes with lids. They were available in a floral pattern or in a solid teal color. I opted for the floral design, and I bought two packs for a total of four mini casserole dishes.

One set comes with two dishes and lids.

This set is an Aldi Find, which means Aldi is only selling it for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials, so after this sells out at your local store, that’s it.

The package says these dishes measure 5.5 inches wide by 3.4 inches tall. They are each 1 quart, therefore holding 4 liquid cups if you fill one just about to the top, but I would recommend filling it with only 2 or 3 cups to avoid spillage during cooking or baking. The dishes were made in Turkey with porcelain enameled steel (the same material as a large stockpot I purchased last year at Aldi).

We’ve detailed the pros and cons of porcelain enameled cookware in our post about the Crofton Porcelain Enamel 12-Quart Stockpot, but essentially it’s a type of cookware in which porcelain, a type of ceramic material, is bonded to steel, stainless steel, cast iron, or aluminum. It often comes in bright colors and offers a nonstick surface without using chemicals such as Teflon, and as a result you don’t need as much oil, butter, or cooking spray to keep food from sticking to the cooking surface. Many people also like this type of cookware because it can be used on both the stove top and in the oven.

The warranty card and manual.

Besides the two dishes with lids, this set comes with a user manual and warranty card.

The manual states to hand wash these dishes in warm, soapy water with a dish cloth or soft sponge before using, and it says prompt drying will reduce water spots. Avoid abrasive cleaning products such as steel wool, scouring pads, or harsh cleaners that can scratch the porcelain enamel.

As mentioned above, these can be used on gas, induction, electric, glass ceramic (smooth glass), or halogen cooktops and are oven safe up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Use the casserole dish on the smallest cooktop burner. If cooking with a gas range, never allow the open flame to travel up the sides of the casserole. Heat settings of medium or lower will give the best results. The manual advises heating the casserole gradually on the burner; don’t put it on a preheated burner. Also, avoid sliding the casserole across your cooktop as it may scratch the cooktop or your casserole.

These dishes should not be microwaved.

These come with a two-year warranty. For service, the warranty card says to call 1-844-806-6842 or email custserv@844support.com. Aldi’s website indicates the service address for the mini casserole warranty is 4824 Socialville Foster Road, Suite 400, Mason, OH 45040.

That’s the address for McSunley, a small company that focuses on direct import and private label products, with connections to retailers, distributors, and factories. Their website states they specialize in “cookware and houseware items manufactured through a select network of Indian factories we have developed and partnered with over the last 20 years.” McSunley provides warranty service for several Aldi products, including the Crofton Roasting Pan with Rack and the Crofton 21.5-Quart Canner with Rack.

These mini casseroles are too pretty for me to store in a regular kitchen cabinet, so I made a spot in my china cabinet to display them.

I like how these are sized for generous single portions. One dish is large enough it might serve two, depending on what you’re making.

Mini casserole with loaded potato soup.

I used these to heat some Aldi frozen loaded baked potato soup in the oven. One casserole dish is more than enough for one serving of this type of soup, so I probably need some dishes that are smaller yet. Otherwise, the soup heated fine, and the dishes did well in the oven. They also weren’t difficult to clean after giving them a little time to soak first. I look forward to using these dishes more in the future.

The Verdict:

The Crofton Mini Casserole Set includes two small dishes with matching lids that can be used on most stove tops or in the oven up to 500 degrees. At the time, they were available in a floral pattern or a solid teal color. These are ideal for single servings of soup, casseroles, or whatever you want to cook, and they come with a two-year warranty.
