Some of our family members are big fans of eggnog. One of my kids would drink it every morning for breakfast instead of her usual glass of milk if I let her, and I have to explain that eggnog is a dessert drink, not a breakfast drink. Thankfully, when the holidays roll around, we can buy our beloved eggnog at our favorite grocery store.
Aldi carries eggnog as a Seasonal Buy, an item that runs for a time during the holiday months. Interestingly, while Aldi has its own line of dairy products under the Friendly Farms name, the store chooses to sell name-brand Dean’s eggnog. It’s one of those few items Aldi chooses to offer outside of its house brands, going with a more widely known dairy company.
This eggnog is sold in festive-looking half gallon (1.89L) plastic jugs in the refrigerated area near the milk, coffee creamer, and canned whipped cream.
It is Grade A, pasteurized, nonalcoholic and contains nonfat milk, cream, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, egg yolk, and less than 1% of whey, corn starch, guar gum, salt, nutmeg, carageenan, natural and artificial flavor, turmeric, and annatto (color). A 1/2 cup serving contains 170 calories, 8 grams of total fat, and 20 grams of sugar. On the bright side, a single serving does provide 15% of your daily recommended intake of calcium.
It’s definitely a dessert drink to be enjoyed only occasionally. It is thick, sweet, and laced with a nice, light nutmeg flavor. It also keeps in the fridge for a few weeks. I bought our jug on December 1, and it has a best by date of December 17.
The Verdict:
Aldi sells name-brand Dean’s eggnog rather than offering it under its typical dairy product line, Friendly Farms. This is a good classic holiday drink in nonalcoholic form. Just beware it’s loaded with sugar. Recommended as an occasional treat.

I could be wrong, but I think Dean’s is the only brand of traditional egg nog Aldi sells. They are also carrying a Friendly Farms almond nog this year.
This is unfortunate because we loved their Dairymen Eggnog. The new brand is not as good.
