It’s German week once again at Aldi. In other words, it’s the most wonderful time of the year — aside from National Advent Calendar Day — at the discount grocery store. Aldi originated with a single store in Germany, so it makes sense that Aldi US gets in touch with its German culinary roots a couple of times a year.
German week at Aldi typically happens once in the spring, and then again in the fall usually around the time of Oktoberfest. These are the times of year when we see products such as:
- Peanut puffs
- Schnitzel
- Cream cakes
- Strudel
- Cabbage and potato dishes
- Indulgent cakes
- German style pickles
- Jaffa cakes
The list could go on, but needless to say, Aldi shelves are loaded with sweet and savory German treats one week during the spring and one week during the fall.
One of the products you might spot at Aldi during German week is doppel keks in a unique cylinder-shaped package.
Deutsche Küche Doppel Keks cost $2.99 for a 17.6-ounce package at the time of publication. Translated literally as “double cookie,” the package describes these as a “sandwich cookie with 46% cocoa cream filling.” These are imported from Germany, and the contain cocoa that is Rainforest Alliance certified to promote human rights and environmental protection.
These cookies are an Aldi Find, so they’re only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone until the next German week at Aldi. Aldi usually sells German food one week in the spring and one week in the fall. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that aren’t in stock at your local store.

If you’re looking out for allergens, these contain wheat, milk, and tree nuts (coco). They may contain other tree nuts (hazelnuts).
One package contains 18 one-cookie servings. One cookie (28 grams) has 140 calories, 5 grams of total fat (6% DV), 3 grams of saturated fat (15% DV), 35 mg of sodium (2% DV), and 9 grams of added sugars (18% DV).

These cookies were a hit in my house. The package got left out on our living room coffee table the other evening, and my family ate about half of the package while we hung out, playing video games, reading, and otherwise enjoying our time together at the end of a busy work and school day.
These doppel keks are mildly sweet and definitely not overly sweet-tasting. The cookie portion is crisp and smooth with a texture and mild flavor almost similar to certain animal crackers I’ve had. The cocoa cream filling hits just the right sweet notes without being too sweet. These are also pretty large cookies, measuring more than 2 and a half inches in diameter, so they’re fairly filling, and you’ll want to be careful not to eat too many at once.
The package claims (in both German and English) to be “soon resealable again.”
Our only complaint — and it’s very minor — is that we couldn’t quite figure out the “resealable” package, or we might have just been too eager to start eating our cookies and weren’t careful enough when opening it. We ended up just sliding the whole thing into a gallon-size Ziploc-style bag for storage. Otherwise, these cookies are terrific.
The Verdict:
Deutsche Küche Doppel Keks are from Germany and feature crispy mildly sweet cookies with a chocolaty sandwich cream filling. Perfect for cookie lovers and for people who enjoy trying snacks from other countries.
