Deutsche Küche German Cream Cakes

Last Updated on October 12, 2021

German week usually comes around to Aldi about twice a year, much to many customers’ delight. People wait months for the grocer to stock their favorite German snacks and entrees, from pork schnitzel to spaetzle to peanut puffs and more. Here at Aldi Reviewer, we’ve compiled a roundup of some of our favorite German foods from Aldi, but we’re always trying new foods. Most recently, I picked up some German cream cakes.

Deutsche Kuche Strawberry Cream Cake

In short, these cakes are amazing. They taste as good as they are beautiful, with layers of soft cake and cream or mousse accented with berries, whipped cream rosettes, and white or dark chocolate shavings. Do yourself a favor and pick one up to try. Even if cake isn’t your favorite dessert, you’ll be glad you did.

Deutsche Kuche Black Forest Cream Cake

Deutsche Küche German Cream Cakes cost $6.99 for a 26.5-28.2-oz. cake at the time of publication.

These are Aldi Finds (Special Buys), which means they’re in stores for only a limited time, and once they sell out, they’re gone until the next time Aldi does a German week.

The cakes are available in three flavors: strawberry, chocolate, or Black Forest. I purchased the strawberry and Black Forest varieties to try. The cakes are imported from Germany and contain UTZ certified cocoa that promotes sustainable cocoa farming.

These cakes are sold frozen, and they simply need to be thawed and served. The box states to remove the product from all packaging, including the Styrofoam collar that goes around the cake, and then thaw at room temperature for 3-4 hours if thawing a whole cake, or 2-3 hours for a sliced cake. Once thawed, the cake should be kept refrigerated and should be eaten within three days. Don’t thaw the cake in the microwave, and don’t re-freeze it once thawed.

I didn’t remove any of the packaging and simply set the frozen cake boxes in the refrigerator to thaw because I’m not comfortable leaving cakes with a whipped cream type of frosting at room temperature for 3-4 hours. My cakes came out fine and I didn’t have trouble removing them from their packaging even after they were thawed.

Each cake has eight servings.

Read on for a closer look at the strawberry and Black Forest varieties.

The box describes this as “Strawberry Cream and Layers of Light Cake, Decorated with Whole Strawberries, Strawberry Sauce, Vanilla Cream Rosettes and White Chocolate Curls.”

Most people in my family declared this their favorite of the two cakes we tried. It is indulgent, light, fluffy, creamy, and full of strawberry flavor. It’s good enough that I might buy a few more to keep in my freezer for special occasions.

Deutsche Küche Black Forest Cream Cake:

The box describes this as “Chocolate cake layered with vanilla flavored cream mousse and cherry sauce, decorated with cream mousse swirls and dark chocolate flakes.”

Deutsche Kuche Black Forest Cake

This is a good cake, too, and some family members preferred this over the strawberry cake. It depends on how much you like chocolate, and especially how much you like cherries. It’s a richer, heavier dessert compared to the strawberry cream cake above, and that is evident in the fact that this cake has 100 more calories per serving than the strawberry one.

Deutsche Kuche Black Forest Cake

The first few ingredients are cream, wheat flour, Morello cherries, sugar, and invert sugar syrup.

This contains milk, wheat, eggs, and soy. It may contain tree nuts.

This cake also contains bovine gelatin.

One serving (1/8 of the cake) has 350 calories, 14 grams of total fat (18% DV), 51 grams of total carbohydrates (18% DV), and 15 grams of added sugars (30% DV).

The Verdict:

Deutsche Küche Cream Cakes look gorgeous on the outside, have pretty layers on the inside, and taste amazing. We tried the strawberry and Black Forest varieties, and we might have to go back and pick up the chocolate cake. With light cake layered between cream and fruit, these are the perfect dessert for any occasion. Highly recommended.

  1. I love ALDIs frozen chocolate ganache cake. It is very hard to find. If I see it I usually buy 2 or 3 . When will it be back in stores ???? ❤️❤️

    • I’m not sure if you’re talking about one of the cakes in this German cream cake series that this post deals with or if you’re referring to something else. You could try asking Aldi about it, but they may or may not tell you when it will be available. https://www.aldi.us/en/about-us/contact-us/

      • I always ask. They don’t know when ill or if it will be back. It is usually in the middle freezer aisle. Brown box. Chocolate ganache, white chocolate ? And more. It is amazing.
