When you want to give your bathroom an inexpensive face lift, or simply make your tub safer, a bath mat is an easy way to add some style and reduce slippery surfaces.

Aldi sometimes sells bath mats, usually around the same time as other bathroom accessories such as rugs, bath towels, and organizers.

The most recent bath mat to show up on Aldi shelves is the Easy Home Bubble Cushioned Bath Mat, which cost $3.99 at the time of publication. That’s cheaper than a lot of the tub mats I could find at Walmart or Amazon.

This is an Aldi Find (Special Buy), which means it’s only in stores for a short time. The mat comes in several colors and designs: clear, blue, dots, fish, or mermaids. I purchased the mermaid mat.

The mat in my tub.

This bath mat measures 27 inches by 15 inches. It features 100 slip-resistant suction cups and claims to be mildew resistant. The packaging also states it is machine washable. It was made in China.

To place it in your shower or tub, wet the tub surface and the bottom of the mat. Press down firmly on the mat to secure the suction cups and anchor the mat in place. The instructions state not to use this on uneven or textured surfaces.

The care instructions state to clean the mat and tub regularly to avoid buildup or slippery residue. The mat can be machine washed on warm and hung up to dry.

Because the mat is sold rolled up, it took some coaxing to position it to stay flat on the bottom of my shower. The suction cups helped, and after the first shower using the mat, it stayed flat and remained in place fine.

A closer look at the mermaids.

It has a strong rubber smell that is noticeable immediately upon entering the bathroom. I’m hoping that smell will fade over time.

I notice a small amount of standing water on it after the shower has been used, so my tub may not fully drain as well as it did before the bath mat, but the trade-off is that my tub is less slippery.

It looks good in the shower, and my kids are fans of the mermaids printed on it. It’s also comfortable to stand on and easy on the feet, with a decent amount of cushioning.

Now, I’m simply waiting for Aldi to sell some shower curtains so I can finish updating the look of my tub.

The Verdict:

The Easy Home Bubble Cushioned Bath Mat adds style and non-slip safety to the shower. It has a strong rubber smell that I’m hopeful will dissipate soon. Otherwise, it is comfortable to stand on and, depending on what design you get, it might even add an element of whimsy to your tub.
