Fit & Active Liquid Water Enhancer

Aldi sells plenty of different drink choices, from soda and juice as well as plain bottled water, alcohol, and flavored water. If you like to drink flavored water but like to add your own flavoring rather than buying something that’s ready to drink, Aldi has more than one option there. The grocer sells powdered drink mix packets, but they also sell a liquid flavoring that you squirt into your water.

Fit and Active Liquid Water Enhancer cost $1.95 for a 1.62-fluid-ounce container at the time of publication.

The water enhancer comes in three flavors: strawberry watermelon, grape, and orange tangerine.

All three flavors have zero calories, are sugar free, caffeine free, and contain no synthetic colors. They’re all sweetened with sucralose (Splenda), and the rest of the ingredients vary depending on the flavor. They contain 0% juice.

I generally avoid foods and drinks with artificial sweeteners because I’m not convinced of their benefits, and I don’t always like the taste. There is evidence that artificial sweeteners may increase sugar cravings, and they may cause people to feel that less intensely sweet foods such as fruit are less appealing. I don’t purchase drinks or mixes like this often, and when I do it tends to be for special occasions such as a party or a camping trip.

To flavor your water with this enhancer, use one squeeze per 8 fluid ounces of water. My family soon learned that “one squeeze” is somewhat subjective and your mileage may vary. Perhaps not surprisingly, you can add more or less flavor depending on how long you make that one squeeze last.

When we used these flavor enhancers in some 16.9-oz. water bottles from Aldi, we used about two squeezes per bottle, and I recommend taking a sip before adding the flavor so there is room in the bottle. We also used these flavor enhancers in reusable water bottles of various sizes and over time we learned how to add the right amount by eyeballing it, tasting and adding small amounts until we got our preferred amount of flavor. They all have a bit of a Kool-Aid taste to them (which my kids love), especially if you’re generous with the squirts.

One nice thing about these squeeze bottles versus pre-measured envelopes or packets of water flavoring is that you can use exactly the amount you need or want for the size of your cup or water bottle, even if you aren’t using a standard single-serving water bottle as is the assumption with most water flavorings.

These flavor enhancers do not need refrigeration, but for best quality they should be used within one month of opening.

Fit and Active Strawberry Watermelon Liquid Water Enhancer

This was the first flavor my family tried, and as is evidenced by the pale pink color in the water bottle, we initially didn’t squeeze the flavor enhancer bottle nearly long enough, so the result was a lightly flavored drink. After a few sips, we added one more squeeze, and that improved things. This was our second-favorite flavor after the grape one.

This contains water, propylene glycol, malic acid, citric acid, and 2% or less of sucralose, acesulfame potassium, natural color, natural flavor, potassium citrate, and potassium sorbate (preservative).

Fit and Active Grape Liquid Water Enhancer

This is my family’s favorite flavor of the three, and it was the first bottle to disappear from the pantry. It has a good grape flavor, and two longer squirts into a 16.9-oz. bottle produces a nice dark purple color, as seen above.

Fit and Active Orange Tangerine Liquid Water Enhancer

My family learned that a little of this goes a long way in a bottle of water, and I thought two longer squirts into a 16.9-oz. bottle was a bit too strong, so I recommend starting with shorter squeezes, then tasting and adding more if necessary. It has strong orange and vitamin C-like flavors.

This is the only flavor among the three that contains sodium, although it’s a small amount: 25 mg or 1% DV.

This contains water, citric acid, gum arabic, sodium citrate, sucralose, and less than 2% of natural flavor, sucralose acetate isobutyrate, modified corn starch, beta carotene (color), potassium sorbate (preservative), sodium benzoate (preservative), and tocopherol (antioxidant).

The Verdict:

Fit and Active Liquid Water Enhancer comes in strawberry watermelon, grape, and orange tangerine flavors. With just a few squirts, these add flavor to bottled water or any glass or cup of water. They contain no sugar or caffeine and are sweetened with sucralose (the name brand of this sweetener is Splenda). The grape flavor is our favorite.
