Fremont Fish Market Salmon Burgers

EDITOR’S NOTE: We think these used to be a Regular Buy available at Aldi year round, but at some point it appears Aldi made them a Seasonal Favorite, which means they’re not sold all year.

Aldi’s seafood options include plenty of salmon, ranging from fresh to frozen. If you’re looking for easy, convenient seafood, the Fremont Fish Market salmon burgers may be a good choice.

Fremont Fish Market Salmon Burgers

As mentioned above in our editor’s note, Aldi salmon burgers used to be Regular Buys, meaning they were in stores all the time, but at some point Aldi started stocking them only occasionally. In our local stores, they appear to be a Seasonal Favorite available during the warmer months.

They are sold frozen and cost $4.99 for an 11.2-oz. box containing four salmon burgers at the time of publication. Fremont Fish Market salmon burgers come in two flavors: Teriyaki and Chipotle.

The salmon burgers are wild caught and certified sustainable through the Marine Stewardship Council. The main ingredient is pink and/or keta salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha and/or Oncorhynchus keta). Keta salmon, also known as chum salmon, has a reputation as a lower-quality fish, but it can be a good-tasting fish depending on when it’s caught, and its population has not struggled in recent years like the popular Chinook salmon.

The salmon burgers can be prepared in four ways: grilling, baking in a conventional oven, baking in a convection oven, or pan frying. I usually bake my salmon burgers in a conventional oven because it’s the most convenient option, and they turn out fine, but I’ve also grilled them and that works well, too.

To grill the salmon burgers, preheat the grill to medium heat (350 degrees Farenheit) and cook for 4 to 4 1/2 minutes on each side.

To bake in a conventional oven preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place frozen burgers on a lightly greased baking sheet, and cook for 7 to 8 minutes on each side.

To heat in a convection oven, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place frozen burgers on a lightly greased baking sheet, and cook for 7 to 7 1/2 minutes on each side.

To pan fry, place the frozen burgers in a lightly oiled pan and cook over low heat for 4 to 4 1/2 minutes on each side.

Microwave cooking is not recommended. Regardless of the cooking method, the salmon burgers should reach an internal temperature of at least 165 degrees.

The packaging also states that they “strive to produce a fully ‘boneless’ product. As with all fish, however, occasional bones may still be present.” I haven’t found any bones yet in the salmon burgers I’ve eaten.

Here’s a closer look at the two salmon burger flavors:

These contain 130 calories per serving, with the burgers weighing 2.8 oz. One serving has 0.5 grams of saturated fat (3% of your recommended daily value), 30 mg of cholesterol (10% DV), 350 mg of sodium (15% DV), 5 grams of carbs (2% DV), 4 grams of total sugars, and 4 grams of added sugars. They also contain 14 grams of protein.

I enjoyed these salmon burgers. They have the sweet taste that is classic teriyaki, but they were not overly sweet.

Fremont Fish Market Chipotle Salmon Burgers

These contain 140 calories per serving, with burgers weighing 2.8 oz. One serving has 1 gram of saturated fat  (5% DV), 35 mg of cholesterol (12% DV), 290 mg of sodium (13% DV), 1 gram of total carbs (0% DV), and 0 grams of sugars. They also contain 15 grams of protein.

I wasn’t sure whether I would like these salmon burgers because, while I appreciate foods with a slight kick, I don’t care for food that is very spicy. These do have kick, but they’re not extremely spicy. I would have no problem buying them again.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s Fremont Fish Market salmon burgers come in teriyaki or chipotle flavors, and both are good. They’re easy to prepare and flavorful, and the chipotle flavor has kick but is not too spicy. They’re good served on buns with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and sliced onion, or serve them atop a salad for a lighter, low-carb meal.
