Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Breaded Flounder

Aldi is a great place to buy fish, from breaded fillets to stuffed clams to seafood paella. A recent option in the store was the Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Breaded Flounder.

Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Flounder

Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Breaded Flounder cost $5.49 at the time of publication for a 16-oz. frozen bag. This is an ALDI Find (Special Buy), which means it’s only in stores for a short time.

The primary ingredient is flounder (Limanda aspera), and ingredients in the breading include bleached wheat flour, wheat flour, yellow corn powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and some other items. People with allergies should be aware these contain fish (flounder), wheat, egg, and soy. The package also notes that while every effort has been made to remove all bones, some bones may still be present. (Our family did not find any bones in our fillets.)

According to the bag, the fish was wild caught in the U.S. in the Northeast Pacific Ocean using a trawl catch method. It is certified sustainable through the Marine Stewardship Council.

The package states it contains four 4-oz. servings. Our bag had seven medium-sized fillets, making one serving a little more than one fillet. I served just one fillet per person to my family, and when served with other sides such as a salad, mac and cheese, or fruit, it was plenty of food.

One serving has 280 calories, 16 grams of total fat (21% of your daily value), 1.5 grams of saturated fat (8% DV), 270 mg of sodium (12% DV), 22 grams of total carbohydrates (8% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (4% DV), 2 grams of total sugars, no added sugars, and 12 grams of protein.

There are instructions for baking in a conventional oven or in a convection oven, along with instructions for deep frying the flounder.

To bake, preheat the oven to 400 degrees, and bake for 18-20 minutes or until the fish flakes when tested with a fork. Let it cool for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.

To bake in a convection oven, follow the instructions for a conventional oven but reduce the cooking time by approximately 2 minutes.

To deep fry, heat oil to 360 degrees. Fry for approximately 4-5 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for 2 to 3 minutes before serving.

I chose to air fry our fillets. I air fried them at 400 degrees for about 14 minutes, and they came out crispy and flaky and just how you would expect breaded fish fillets to be. When served with some tartar sauce and maybe some fries, they make a good lunch or dinner.

The Verdict:

Fremont Fish Market Wild Caught Breaded Flounder consists of flaky fish fillets coated in a crisp breading. Perfect for a frugal fish and chips dinner.

  1. I tried the Fremont Wild Caught Flounder breaded filets yesterday and baked them on parchment paper with a tiny bit of canola oil on the paper. They were crisp, delicious and the very best frozen fish that I’ve ever had – simply delish! I would highly recommend them !

  2. Is this company straight USA?

      • Why is Aldi stores not carrying the Fremont breaded flounder fillets in any of their stores any more? All the Aldi stores in Sarasota, Bradenton have been out for quite a while. Will they ever stock them again? This happens to a lot of the products that I buy at Aldi, they have them, then they are gone, and I never see them again, no matter what food product I try to buy, mostly frozen items. When I ask the store Managers, they never seem to have a real answer for me. I have to go to other stores to shop to get the same products I used to be able to get at Aldi. Very disappointing!

        • Mary: as the post above explains, this fish is what’s called an Aldi Find. That means it’s only stocked for a limited time. This particular breaded fish usually is stocked during the season of Lent when seafood is very popular.

Aldi is actually pretty clever with how they rotate products in and out of their stores, but if you don’t understand how Aldi operates, you might feel frustrated when you can’t find a product you like.
