Huntington Home Animal Storage Basket

If there’s one thing Aldi does well, aside from selling a lot of delicious food, it’s imitating name-brand home decor and furnishings and selling them for a fraction of the cost. Just ask anyone who has salivated over the popular “teal cabinet” the discount grocer has sold in the fall for the past two years, or the foldable storage ottoman, or the writing desk.

Or, most recently, Aldi sold some storage baskets that look like a fox or a dog, and they are dead ringers for much pricier baskets from Pottery Barn that also look like a fox and dog.

The Huntington Home Animal Storage Basket cost $29.99 at the time of publication. This is an Aldi Find (Special Buy), which means it’s only in stores for a short time, and once it sells out, it’s gone.

The basket is available in fox or dog designs, and I purchased the fox one to use as blanket or stuffed animal storage in my daughter’s room.

As mentioned above, these baskets are almost identical to ones sold by Pottery Barn for $89. I can’t imagine throwing down that much money for a wicker storage basket, but $30 at Aldi is more doable.

The Aldi baskets measure 18 inches tall and 16 inches in diameter. If you buy the fox basket, the ears stick up from the lid and add another 2.5 inches to the basket’s height.

Our basket feels very sturdy. In fact, it was sturdy enough that the Aldi cashier asked if she could put some groceries inside it while she rang me up, in order to save space in my shopping cart. Because it was lightly weighted with some groceries, I buckled it in during my drive home from the store, which amused my kids when they saw it.

I was a little concerned about how durable the fox’s ears would be because they stick up from the lid, but they feel sturdy and appear to be attached well, not moving at all when touched.

The lid fits on top securely as well, and the basket has openings on the sides for handles to carry it with.

Overall, I’m happy with the basket, and so is my kid.

The Verdict:

The Huntington Home Animal Storage Basket comes in fox or puppy designs, and both baskets look almost identical to very expensive baskets sold at the name brand retailer Pottery Barn. The baskets are cute and seem to be sturdy, with secure-fitting lids and helpful carrying handles.
