Huntington Home Bowl Bouquet Toilet Spray

Some of the funniest and most memorable — and slightly disturbing — commercials are for bathroom products, and specifically for products that relate to . . . well, bowel movements. There’s the Squatty Potty with its commercial featuring the rainbow-ice-cream-pooping unicorn, and there are commercials for Poo-Pourri to mask those unpleasant bathroom odors.

At various times of year, Aldi sells knockoff versions of both the Squatty Potty and Poo-Pourri. Most recently (and just in time for potential gag gifts for the holidays?), Aldi sold a toilet spray under one of its private labels, Huntington Home, which sells a variety of products for use around the home, from blankets to wax fragrance warmers to bath towels. The bottle label on this toilet spray looks a lot like name-brand Poo-Pourri.

Huntington Home Bowl Bouquet Toilet Spray costs $3.99 for a 2-oz. bottle at the time of publication. That’s a lot less than name-brand Poo-Pouri sold at Target, Walmart, or Amazon.

This is an Aldi Find (Special Buy), which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not currently offer online ordering in the U.S., so once this sells out of stores, it’s gone.

The spray comes in two scents: Lavender Vanilla or Classic Citrus. I purchased the citrus scent. The bottle states these sprays are made with essential oils. Both of the toilet bowl spray scents sold at Aldi mimic scent options available from the name-brand Poo-Pourri.

To use, shake the bottle well, and spray three to five times into the toilet bowl on the water’s surface. Then, use the toilet.

The bottle warns to use in well-ventilated areas, keep out of reach of children and pets, do not ingest, and avoid contact with skin and eyes. The spray should be kept away from hard surfaces and finishes. Store in a cool, dry place.

We haven’t tried Poo-Pourri to see — or smell — how it compares to the Aldi spray. What we can say is that the Aldi spray certainly smells good and seems to do a decent job of masking odors. I like that this spray uses essential oils so it smells like real citrus and not like fake chemical oranges.

According to Poo-Pourri’s website, the idea is that the oils in the spray are supposed to create a film on top of the water that traps odors below. I can’t say with scientific certainty whether that’s what happens or if the smell of citrus is just so strong that it masks everything else in the bathroom.

Either way, it’s a useful bottle to keep on the shelf above the toilet next to the regular air freshener.

The Verdict:

Huntington Home Bowl Bouquet Toilet Spray looks a lot like name-brand Poo-Pourri and comes in some of the same scents the name brand sells. The Aldi version is a fraction of the cost of the name-brand stuff. It’s made with essential oils and seems to do a decent job of masking odors in the bathroom.
