Lacura Everyday Clean Dandruff Shampoo

If you have dandruff — a condition involving a flaky and possibly itchy scalp — there’s an excellent chance you’ve heard of Head and Shoulders. A product of consumer goods giant Procter and Gamble, Head and Shoulders remains one of the best-selling shampoos on the market today.

Head and Shoulders has spawned plenty of generic imitations, including versions sold by most of the major big box stores. In the past, Aldi hasn’t sold many of its own hygiene products, instead stocking mostly brand names. That’s changed, though, as Aldi has recently started selling things like body wash, regular shampoo and conditioner, and, in this case, dandruff shampoo.

Lacura Everyday Clean Dandruff Shampoo is a Regular Buy, which means it can be found in stores every day. At the time of this post, it costs $2.35 for a 14.2-ounce bottle, or about 16.5 cents an ounce. That’s a lot less than the brand name and a little less than the Walmart version. The packaging says it’s meant to compare to Head and Shoulders Classic Clean. In typical Aldi fashion, the bottle is a shameless imitation of Head and Shoulders.

The active ingredient in this shampoo is pyrithione zinc, a common anti-dandruff ingredient, including in Head and Shoulders.

The shampoo has a thick texture — much like the name brand it imitates — and a clean smell. It lathers up easy and washes out just as easy. I also found the bottle easy to use.

The Verdict:

If you need a cheaper take on Head and Shoulders, you might want to check this bottle out. With similar ingredients and a lower price tag, Aldi’s foray into the shampoo business looks promising.
