Humans are designed for sunlight.

Research has repeatedly demonstrated this. Not only does sunlight help our bodies produce Vitamin D, but it also improves our sense of well-being. Morning sun seems especially important, as it helps trigger the way we fall asleep at night.

Sunlight becomes a scarce resource in the winter months. The farther north you live, the shorter the daylight hours become in the winter. I have relatives who live just a few hours north of me, and their days are a full half-hour shorter than mine. In December, that can feel like a huge difference. Many people are affected by this lack of light, some more seriously than others.

One research-based remedy some doctors employ is light therapy, where people sit close to a specific kind of light for 30 minutes a day shortly after waking up. People who are seriously affected by a lack of sunlight should consult with their doctor about treatments, but if your symptoms are more mild, you can sometimes find remedies on your own to counter the so-called winter blues.

Aldi is selling one.

What We Know:

Lightway LED Daylight Lamp

The Lightway LED Daylight Lamp (Product Code: 706071) is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a limited time. Once it’s gone, you won’t be able to order it online or find it in stores until it returns, which could be next year or even not at all.

At the time of this post, the lamp costs $24.99. That’s less than most, if not all, of the lamps that I could find online.

According to Aldi, here’s more information about the lamp:

  • Measures 7.5″ x 6.3″ x 0.43″
  • Produces white light that mimics sunshine
  • Features a 10,500 lux light to deliver full-spectrum white light therapy for a daily dose of sunshine
  • Three-setting color temperature control
  • Five-setting dimming control
  • Six-setting timer control
  • Touch control
  • Plugs into any standard AC outlet

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t yet tried out this lamp, so we don’t know how well it works or how reliable it is. We’ve created this open thread for users to share their experiences.

I got the Lightway LED Daylight Lamp and the light and ease of use is absolutely wonderful. I just love it Except one thing–I can’t find how to turn it off! It has a timer feature, which is what I guess I’ll use, setting it for 10 minutes, the lowest time. However, I’d really like to figure out how to turn it off and on other than unplugging it. Anyone know what I am missing? It is so great I’m planning to buy another one actually, despite the fact I can’t figure out how to turn it off :-).

  2. I bought this lamp and only lasted for about 1.5 months. It doesn’t turn on anymore. The quality was super great and I absolutely loved it, but surprisingly the one from Five and Below is lasting me for 24 months.

  3. I had my LED Daylight Lamp, Sunlight simulation, Model No: EH1088 and I really liked it, while it worked. It stopped working after 30-40 uses, about 2 months. If I get a chance I’ll see if the store will refund my purchase but I’m not hopeful.

  4. How do you turn it on?

  5. Used once and it stopped working

  6. I had two of them. They both stopped working after about two months. Simply won’t turn on anymore.

  7. I got 3 uses out of it before it stopped working. Not worth the money

  8. Mine also will not turn on anymore. I left for a month and when I came back it will not work. Loved it while it was working. Seems like there are several people have had the same experience. What a shame.
