liveGfree Gluten Free Donuts

EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sometimes sells gluten free chocolate frosted donuts and gluten free glazed donuts. You can read our review of those other donuts here

For a limited-assortment grocery store, Aldi stocks a decent number of gluten free options. Some are Regular Buys that are available all year, including a gluten free baking mix for making things such as pancakes and waffles, as well as gluten free knockoff Red Lobster cheddar biscuit mix, and gluten free cornbread mix. Other gluten free products at Aldi are limited-time specials, such as gluten free stuffing and gluten free French fried onions. Among the most recent gluten free specials at Aldi are some gluten free donuts in several flavors.

LiveGfree Gluten Free Donuts

liveGfree Gluten Free Donuts cost $4.49 at the time of publication for a 10.5-ounce box containing six donuts, which comes out to about 75 cents per donut. The donuts are kosher and can be found in the Aldi Find freezers, and they come in three holiday-themed flavors: cranberry, gingerbread, and pumpkin. All of the donut flavors have a Krispy Kreme-like glaze on top.

These are Aldi Finds, which means they’re only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials, so after these sell out at your local store, they’re gone.

The primary ingredient is gluten free flour, which includes white rice flour, tapioca starch, and corn starch.

If you’re looking out for allergens, all three flavors contain eggs.

The boxes indicate these donuts should be kept frozen. When you want to eat them, thaw them out of the bags for two hours, or warm them in the microwave for 5-10 seconds.

Each box contains six donuts, and I don’t think there’s a bad flavor in the group. I also don’t think these gluten free donuts taste different from regular grocery store donuts.

More information on each donut flavor is posted below:

liveGfree Gluten Free Cranberry Donuts

In addition to a crispy glaze on top, this donut also is topped with bits of dried cranberries. I wasn’t sure what I’d think of having actual cranberry pieces on my donut, but it works well.

One donut (50 grams) has 220 calories (the highest number of calories of any of the three flavors), along with 9 grams of total fat (12% DV), 3.5 grams of saturated fat (18% DV), 220 mg of sodium (10% DV), 35 grams of total carbohydrates (13% DV), 21 grams of total sugars, and 18 grams of added sugars (36% DV).

liveGfree Gluten Free Gingerbread Donuts

This might have been my favorite of the three donut flavors. It has a very mild gingerbread flavor, tasting like a slightly spiced regular cake donut. It’s not bland by any means, but it’s the most neutral- or normal-flavored of the three types of donuts. Ideal if you don’t like to get too cutesy with your baked treats.

One donut (50 grams) has 190 calories, 7 grams of total fat (9% DV), 2.5 grams of saturated fat (13% DV), 260 mg of sodium (11% DV), 30 grams of total carbohydrates (11% DV), and 16 grams of added sugars (32% DV).

liveGfree Gluten Free Pumpkin Donuts

This donut has plenty of pumpkin flavor. If you like pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, or anything pumpkin-related, this is the donut for you. I think this might have more pumpkin flavor than the non-gluten free pumpkin donuts Aldi sells in the fall.

One donut (50 grams) has 190 calories, 7 grams of total fat (9% DV), 2.5 grams of saturated fat (13% DV), 250 mg of sodium (11% DV), 30 grams of total carbohydrates (11% DV), and 15 grams of added sugars (30% DV).

The Verdict:

liveGfree Gluten Free Donuts are glazed and come in three flavors: cranberry, gingerbread, and pumpkin. They’re all good, and if you didn’t tell us they’re gluten free, we never would have guessed. As an added perk, these donuts are sold frozen, so you can stock up and thaw individual donuts as desired.

Love the donuts. I haven’t found a GF item I didn’t like. Especially the cheesecake. Thanks for making it easier for us who have gluten allergies.
