L’Oven Fresh Pains au Chocolat

Last Updated on August 22, 2021

One item in the baked goods area at Aldi has repeatedly caught my eye. On a recent weekend, I finally decided to indulge in the French treat, the L’Oven Fresh Pains au Chocolat. These are rolls made from a yeasty dough similar to a crescent, with two bars of dark chocolate baked inside.

L'Oven Fresh Pains au Chocolat

L’Oven Fresh Pains au Chocolat cost $2.99 at the time of publication for a 12.69-oz. package that contains eight individually wrapped rolls, or about 37 cents per roll. They are a product of France. The package says: “Sweet brioche rolls filled with creamy rich chocolate. Pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning or in the afternoon as a sweet snack.”

One serving is one roll, and one serving contains 190 calories, 10 grams of total fat (12% of your daily value), 4 grams of saturated fat (21% DV), less than 5 mg of cholesterol (1% DV), 160 mg of sodium (75 DV), 21 grams of total carbohydrates (7% DV), 1 gram of dietary fiber (3% DV), 7 grams of total sugars, 6 grams of added sugars (12% DV), and 3 grams of protein.

The primary ingredient is wheat flour.

The rolls contain wheat and milk. They may also contain eggs.

The rolls are individually wrapped and packaged inside a large plastic bag, which means some unnecessary plastic. It’d be nice to see the packaging reduced.

My family had the rolls with breakfast and hot tea on a Saturday morning. They are soft, not overly sweet, and not too chocolaty. Each roll has two thin lines of chocolate filling. The chocolate filling has a more solid texture; it’s not a pudding type of texture like what you might get in a doughnut. They’re also large and fairly filling as far as carb-loaded treats go. I don’t know that we’ll eat them often, but it is fun to enjoy a French specialty every once in a while.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s L’Oven Fresh Pains Au Chocolat are imported from France and consist of sweet brioche rolls filled with chocolate. They’re not overly sweet, and they make a good breakfast food or snack.

  1. I may have overlooked it in your review ( I sometimes read quickly and might have missed it) but have you ever put these in the microwave just for a few seconds? Literally. It slightly melts the chocolate making them even more yummy!

  2. I was intrigued by them but figured they wouldn’t be nearly as good if not heated. Oven, or as Pam does, microwave? Give me another reason to eat a delicious, not so healthy breakfast!

  3. Sorry but these were very disappointing because they are not made with a flaky dough as pains au chocolat should be. We will not buy again.

  4. Love these things

  5. omg I buy at least 2 bags of these and I’m not sure if your supposed to heat them but I do and they are so delicious I 100% recommend

  6. Hi Rachael,

Would you be able to tell whether it is vegetarian friendly and it does not contain animal fats like “Lard”.

    Thanks

My childhood afterschool favorite snack….I am so happy that I can buy them at ALDI.

  8. I was actually reading this because I was hoping somebody would spill the beans on how long to heat these up! I was going to use the oven….. since I have no clue on how long or temperature, I guess the microwave is the best option. DO NOT EAT un-heated! I’m warning you it’s gross!
