L’Oven Fresh Pumpkin Spice Bagels

Continuing with the pumpkin-spice-everything trend, one item that caught my attention at Aldi this year was a package of L’Oven Fresh Pumpkin Spice Bagels.

The bagels were $1.99 for a 20-oz. bag of six bagels at the time of publication.

These are a limited edition Seasonal Favorite, which means they should be in Aldi stores through the fall, but they won’t stick around forever. Seasonal Favorites are on shelves longer than ALDI Finds (Special Buys), but you still won’t want to delay if you’d like to try these.

One bagel (95 grams) nets you 270 calories, with 1.5 grams of total fat (2% of your daily value), 0 grams of saturated fat, 0 mg of cholesterol, 340 mg of sodium (15% DV), 53 grams of total carbohydrates (19% DV), and 8 grams of added sugars (7% DV). One serving also has 9 grams of protein and 15% of your daily value of iron.

Not surprisingly, for those concerned about allergies, the bagels contain wheat.

The ingredients are a bit of a laundry list, as you might expect for a pumpkin-flavored bakery product, with less recognizable items like dextrose, oleoresin, guar gum, and vegetable monoglycerides. They even have something in the ingredients list called pumpkin spice bites, which consist of sugar, wheat flour, dextrose, sunflower oil, wheat starch, spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves), malted barley flour, and beta carotene.

Aldi’s Simply Nature Pumpkin Spice It Up Bread is perhaps a better choice if you want a pumpkin spice treat but are looking for more whole / clean ingredients.

As far as taste goes, I like these bagels. The pumpkin spice flavor is there, but it’s not overpowering. They also have that classic chewy texture we associate with a good bagel. Served lightly toasted with some cream cheese spread on top, they make for a nice breakfast.

The Verdict:

Aldi’s L’Oven Fresh Pumpkin Spice Bagels have good flavor without being overwhelming or overly sweet. They’re not the healthiest in terms of ingredients or carbs. However, if you want to indulge in the pumpkin spice trend but don’t want to go completely crazy with it, these bagels might be worth a try.
