Mama Cozzi’s Gourmet Thin Crust Pizza Kit

If you’re familiar with Aldi, you probably know that the grocer sells a lot of pizza. There are everyday frozen pizzas and refrigerated take and bake pizzas, along with limited-edition specialty frozen pizzas and take and bake pizzas. What I don’t see quite as much of are pizza kits with crust and sauce, where you add your own toppings and then bake. But Aldi recently sold just such a pizza kit.

Mama Cozzi's Gourmet Thin Crust Pizza Kit

Mama Cozzi’s Gourmet Thin Crust Pizza Kit cost $3.29 for a 24-ounce kit at the time of publication. It’s a product of Canada and comes with two 12-inch crusts and two “premium tomato sauce” packets. You add your own mozzarella cheese and your choice of toppings.

This is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials after they sell out at your local store.

Crust ingredients include enriched wheat flour, dough conditioner, and canola oil. The sauce ingredients include water, crushed tomato, canola oil, salt, garlic puree, sugar, citric acid, and herbs (what kinds of herbs, they don’t say).

If you’re looking out for allergens, this kit contains wheat. It may contain soy and milk.

One kit contains eight servings, with one serving constituting 1/4 of a crust plus sauce. One 85-gram serving (before you add all your own toppings) has 180 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat (2% DV), 500 mg of sodium (22% DV), 35 grams of total carbohydrates (13% DV), 2 grams of dietary fiber (9% DV), 2 grams of total sugars, no added sugars (at least not enough to register in the nutrition info), and 7 grams of protein.

The package states this should be kept refrigerated. It should be used within three days of opening. It is suitable to freeze this at home for later use.

To bake these pizzas, preheat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Remove all packaging. Spread tomato sauce over the pizza crust and garnish with your favorite toppings. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown. Remove carefully from the oven and let pizza cool for 2-3 minutes before serving. It’s not recommended to prepare this in a microwave or toaster oven.

These come together almost as quickly and easily as any frozen or take and bake pizza. I only topped my pizzas with shredded mozzarella cheese, and they baked up perfectly in 8-10 minutes, as advertised. The sauce is flavorful and zesty, and the thin crust is nicely crisp.

The finished pizza.

My only minor gripe is that the plastic packaging this pizza comes in is not resealable. Because there are two pizza crusts in this, if you don’t eat both in one meal, you’ll have to wrap the second crust in plastic wrap or foil until you’re ready to bake it. It would be nice if the plastic packaging had a zipper-type of seal. Otherwise, though, you can’t go wrong with this pizza on your next pizza night.

The Verdict:

Mama Cozzi’s Gourmet Thin Crust Pizza Kit is sold refrigerated and comes with two pizza crusts and two sauce packets. Add your own cheese and other toppings and bake. These pizza crusts bake up crisp, and the sauce is flavorful, and these are a great choice for pizza night.
