EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold gingerbread houses again in 2023 for a lower price of $9.99 each, compared to $14.99 in 2022. We have repeatedly seen Aldi drop prices on many Aldi Finds in 2023.
During the past few years, Aldi has started selling a range of ceramic decorations during the Christmas holiday season. It started with a ceramic nostalgic Christmas tree in 2019. The trees looked like the kinds of decorations that were popular in the 1960s and 1970s, and Aldi shoppers scooped them up.
Later, we spotted Aldi stocking other ceramic holiday decorations that they deemed “nostalgic,” including retro-style pickup trucks during the Halloween season.
This year, Aldi is expanding its collection of nostalgic ceramic décor for the Christmas holidays. The grocer is stocking ceramic Christmas trees in two different sizes, along with ceramic Christmas gnomes in varying sizes as well as ceramic Christmas trucks. Aldi also is selling some ceramic gingerbread houses in assorted colors, and they caught my eye. These decorations are all battery-operated and do not work using an electric cord. That can be good news if you have limited electrical outlets, as long as you don’t mind keeping some batteries on hand.
Some of the ceramic gingerbread houses are a traditional brown gingerbread-like color, while others are red, pink, or green. I bought one that’s a light green color that looks a bit vintage. The pale green reminds me of colors that were popular in mid-twentieth century kitchens and bathrooms. All of the gingerbread houses feature a cookie-like roof and “candy” trimmings that look like starlight mints, lollipops, candy canes, sprinkles, cookies, and frosting.

The Merry Moments Gingerbread House (Product Code: 706070) cost $14.99 at the time of publication. Other ceramic gingerbread houses of a similar size on Amazon cost significantly more, ranging from $25 into the $80s or even $90s depending on how fancy of a house you want.
This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and once that sells out, they’re gone. Aldi does not offer online ordering if a product is not at your local store.

Before setting this house out for display, you’ll need to remove the cord that attaches the try-me button. The cord is attached under the bottom of the house, and to remove the cord, simply give it a firm tug. It will pop right out, and you can discard it.
Once the try-me cord/button is removed, you’ll need to add two AA batteries to make this house light up. The battery compartment opens easily without the use of a screwdriver. Simply drop the batteries in, put the lid on the battery compartment, and push the control switch on the bottom of the house to turn on the lights.
The control switch has three settings: off, on, or a timer that runs the lights for 6 hours and turns them off for 18 hours and repeats the cycle until you turn it off. I like the use the timer setting. I turned the house on to the timer setting in the late afternoon, around 4 p.m., so it can light up once natural daylight starts fading, and it remains lit until about 10 p.m. when we’ve gone to bed or are headed to bed. The timer setting makes it a nice set-it-and-forget it kind of decoration. Just be aware that you can’t set it to turn on and off at a specific time of day. You have to turn it on to the timer switch at the time you want it to come on each day, and then leave it alone and it should do its thing.
I got some compliments from my family when they saw this after I brought it home from Aldi, and I’m looking forward to displaying it for many years to come. For now, I have it on my dining room table as a centerpiece, but it would also look good on a shelf, mantel, or accent table. I’ll update this post with any potential new developments regarding longevity.
The Verdict:
The Merry Moments Gingerbread House comes in several colors, and we’re partial to the light green. We also like the brown house that looks like traditional gingerbread. These houses feature LED lights and operate using two AA batteries. They cost less than similar ceramic gingerbread houses on the market and make a fun addition to your annual Christmas décor.
