Millville Fruit & Grain Cereal Bars

Last Updated on September 13, 2018

Aldi offers several options when it comes to quick snacks like cereal bars and granola bars. The Millville Fruit & Grain Cereal Bars are among those choices.

Fruit & Grain Cereal Bars come in a few flavors: blueberry, strawberry, wild berry, and apple cinnamon. I don’t seem to see the apple cinnamon flavor as frequently in my local stores, or maybe it’s just that my kids are partial to the berry-flavored bars, so that’s what they pluck off the shelves. I used to eat these cereal bars as a snack at work while I was pregnant. They all taste good, but blueberry is a special favorite in our house.

These cereal bars consist of a bready outer coating surrounding a gooey, fruity filling. They’re a little reminiscent of Fig Newtons.

These bars look healthy at first glance, with no high fructose corn syrup and no artificial food dyes (an additive Aldi has striven to eliminate from its in-house brands recently). They are naturally and artificially flavored, low in fat and sodium, contain 8 grams of whole grains per serving, and claim to include “real fruit filling.” Each bar contains roughly 23 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of protein.

However, the sugar content is high, at around 12 grams per bar. That is about half of an average person’s daily allotment of sugar for one day, right there in one cereal bar. Because they do contain real fruit filling, it’s hard to know how much sugar is added and how much is natural. The ingredients list is fairly long as well, so these cereal bars don’t exactly qualify as whole food.

If you’re looking for a healthier option for breakfast or snack bars, try the Millville Protein Chewy Bars that come in peanut, dark chocolate, and almond flavor or dark chocolate and peanut butter flavor. With just a bit of chocolate coating, real nuts, and only 2 to 3 grams of sugar per bar, they are a healthy choice.

The Verdict:

Millville Fruit & Grain Cereal Bars make a nice, tasty quick breakfast or snack, but they might not be the greatest option for health-conscious consumers.

  1. These are *slightly* better than Nutri-Grain bars because at least the Aldi version does not have artificial food dyes. But they are artificially flavored and full of sugar. It boggles my mind how Nutri-Grain bars are considered a wholesome breakfast food, to the point that they are served in schools. They are worse nutritionally than many straight-up cookies on the market.
But at least the Aldi version has slightly less sugar, a lower price, and no artificial dyes.

  2. We bought ours from Ali’s in michigan. However, the front oh the box days no high fructose corn syrup. But when you lol at the ingredients one of the first things you see is corn syrup. This goes to show you have to read the ingredients not just believe the package advertising.

    • Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup aren’t the same so they aren’t lying. Just google corn syrup vs high fructose corn syrup. It’s mostly glucose rather than fructose.

  3. Have you tried these recently? These have been one of my favorite snacks for years but they have not been as good the last 6 months. It seems like they are under baked. They are not as brown as they used to be and they are not quite as firm a bar. I keep buying them thinking maybe there was just an “off batch” that wasn’t baked long enough and eventually they will get back to normal, but I am getting to the point where I am going to stop buying them. They just aren’t as good anymore.

    • We buy them often and still like them.

    • Ann, EXACTLY! I used to love those bars, and ate WAY too many. Not anymore. I don’t even care for the new recipe.

    • Ann, you are right on mark. I thought the same thing that perhaps they had an “off batch,” but apparently that’s just the way that they are anymore. I won’t be buying them again. Please update if they go back to old recipe. 🙂

  4. Millville has changed these bars, they’re not good anymore. They’re all gummy like now, terrible texture and don’t taste as good. They say twice as nice on the back or your money back, but I guess you have to take them to Aldi because I don’t see any contact info on the bar (maybe on the box?)

  5. Used to love these bars but today I saw the package comes with only 6 bars instead of 8 and the price is higher.
