Milk is one of my favorite drinks. I’ve written about chocolate milk from Trader Joe’s and coconut milk from Aldi. Bananas are also some of my favorite fruits, so a while back when I saw some Mooala Organic Original Banana Milk at Aldi, I decided to try it. I now like to buy it whenever I see it in stock at Aldi. It does not contain any dairy milk. In that way, it’s similar to coconut milk, almond milk, and other non-dairy alternatives to traditional milk. This banana milk also has no added sugar.

Mooala Organic Original Banana Milk

Mooala Organic Original Banana Milk cost $4.49 for a 48-fluid-ounce bottle at Aldi at the time of publication. That comes out to about 9 cents per ounce.

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store gets one shipment, and after that sells out, it’s gone until next time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your area store.

If this is sold out at your local Aldi, though, the good news is that Mooala isn’t a brand limited to Aldi. However, it doesn’t seem to be something that a lot of traditional grocery stores sell. Fresh Thyme Market sells 48-ounce bottles for $5.49 (about 11 cents per ounce) at the time of writing. I also found this milk at a locally owned grocery store in my area. Or you can buy it on Amazon, where it’s sold in multi-packs for about 18 cents an ounce.

My Mooala bottle states the company is “Texas owned and operated.” The milk is manufactured for Mooala Brands, LLC, based in Dallas, Texas. The bottle I bought says it was made in Canada, and it was certified organic by Pro-Cert.

Mooala markets itself as organic, pesticide-free, and preservative-free. Mooala makes banana milk in other flavors, including strawberry and chocolate. They also make other non-dairy milks including almond milk, oat milk, non-dairy creamer, and plant-based keto milk. Most of their products are sold in either shelf-stable room-temperature cartons (to be refrigerated after opening) or in refrigerated bottles.

This banana milk is almost more like juice. It tastes like bananas, but it also has some cinnamon that you can taste, too. The taste vaguely reminds me of the spices in banana bread. The consistency, like with coconut milk, isn’t as thick as actual milk, but I think it’s thicker than coconut milk. Mooala’s website says you can enjoy this milk with cereal, in smoothies or baked goods, or “by the glass.”

One bottle has six 1-cup servings. One serving has 60 calories, 3 grams of total fat, 0 grams of saturated fat, 9 grams of total carbohydrates, 4 grams of total sugars, and 0 grams of added sugars.

Ingredients are filtered water, organic bananas, organic sunflower seeds, and less than 2% of calcium and potassium blend (calcium carbonate, potassium chloride), gellan gum, and organic cinnamon.

The bottle recommends shaking well before serving. This stays fresh for about 7-10 days after opening and should be kept refrigerated. Do not use it as infant formula.

The Verdict:

I still like dairy milk best, but Mooala Banana Milk is a good dairy-free option, and it’s one of my favorites to have around. It’s also convenient because it doesn’t have any allergens such as dairy, nuts, or soy, and it can be served as an alternative to dairy milk.
