Open Thread: Ambiano Convection Countertop Oven

Last Updated on February 21, 2021

EDITOR’S NOTE: Aldi sold this oven again for a limited time during the week of March 3rd, 2021, for the same price of $49.99.

Aldi always has something up its sleeve when it comes to kitchen gadgets and appliances. From air fryers to deep fryers to pressure cookers to rice cookers, it seems like nearly every weekly ad features something to make life easier or more efficient in the kitchen. One such appliance is the Ambiano Convection Countertop Oven, which is like a toaster oven on steroids. It not only makes toast, it also makes pizza, and you can even make a rotisserie chicken in it.

Here’s an explanation of how convection ovens work from The Kitchn:

… a convection oven has a fan and exhaust system that a regular oven does not. The fan and exhaust help blow hot oven air over and around the food, then vent it back out. As a result, this hot air surrounds the food so that it cooks evenly and more quickly.

The Kitchn recommends convection ovens for roasting meats or veggies; baking pies, pastries, or large numbers of cookies; toasting or dehydrating; or any time you’re cooking food that is covered such as a braise or a casserole dish.

What We Know:

Ambiano Convection Countertop Oven

The Ambiano Convection Countertop Oven (product code 43674) sold for $49.99 in January of 2020. It’s an ALDI Find (Special Buy), which means it’s in stores for a short time and then it’s gone until the next year.

Features for the 2020 Ambiano Convection Countertop Oven include:

  • Extra large interior that measures 13″ L x 11.5″ W x 9″ H
  • Holds two 11.5″ pizzas
  • Fan circulates heated air to cook foods evenly
  • Includes rotisserie accessories
  • Two adjustable wire oven racks
  • Curved handle for easier grip
  • Tempered glass door
  • Skid-resistant rubber feet
  • Includes baking pan and removable crumb tray

Aldi sold a similar — possibly identical — convection countertop oven for $36.99 in 2019, which is a price difference of $13 compared to the 2020 oven. Aldi also sold a convection countertop oven for $34.99 in 2018, a price difference of $15 compared to the 2020 model. If you want another model all together, Aldi also periodically sells the Ambiano Digital Turbo Convection Oven that cost $39.99 in 2019.

We found a useful video review of the 2018 Ambiano Convection Countertop Oven here.

The 2019 oven model came with a three-year warranty serviced by Wachsmuth and Krogmann, an international company whose U.S. operations are based in Chicago. They have provided warranty service for other Aldi products such as the Ambiano 4 Slice Toaster and the Easy Home Robotic Floor Duster.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t used the convection countertop oven, so we don’t know how well it works. We also don’t know what kind of warranty it comes with this year.

It has a three (3) year warranty…it’s on the box.

  2. Can you air fry with this using the basket from the power air fryer? this looks more powerful

  3. I purchased an Ambiano Convection Countertop Oven, Model Intertek 4007476, on 3/29/21 and have the following complaints.
    1. There is no safety stop for the baking tray when pulling it out the oven. Whatever I placed on it takes a real juggling act to remove it safety without the cooking container sliding down and off the rack into my hands and spilling the content.. This is a serious defect. No children, well even adults, should not use this oven for that alone.
    2. It is very unclear what the temps are. For example I wanted to bake an item at 350 degrees. I set it just under the 380 mark and the oven zoomed to 450 on my oven thermometer. The temps marked are 210, 280, 380, and 450. They are meaningless for US baking without some guidance. Plus the oven temps are not marked hardly at all.
    3. The baking rack provided does not support a round pizza. The oven has a circular part at the back to fit the pizza. But if using the provided rack the back side of the pizza would fold over and drop down.
    4. The manual that was provided just gives warnings about do’s and don’ts but nothing about how to actually use the oven and how to bake/toast/broil.
    5. The baking rack is not very strong and doesn’t support a casserole dish very well.
Overall, this item fails my Aldi test for quality kitchen items. I am very disappointed.

    • I am having the same issue…I wish I never had purchased this product…I am trying to figure out the temp setting through trial and error…with more burnt food…I threw away the receipt so I can’t return it…

  4. Mine came with only one rack. I would love to buy a second but I have not been able to find where to buy.

  5. Mine hinge door’s rivet snapped. Is there any spare?

I love this oven. I stayed in a tiny house and it worked well on the porch outside. I would love to purchase another one.

  7. My husband bought this oven for me when Aldi’s had the $49.99 offer this past spring, and I have the exact same issues as the other posters. My food is either overdone or underdone because it can’t maintain the temperature. And in order to find the place on the dial where it needs to be set at I have to turn it on, then dial it back until it clicks off when I see my oven thermometer is at the right temp. Any oven that can’t maintain a set temperature is useless and we are sorry we bought this.

I also tried plugging it into a heavy-duty extension cord rated for window air conditioners and plugging it into a dedicated circuit so it’s not sharing the power with other appliances, which seems to help it not drop the temperature then struggle to get it back up

  8. I found that using the “Bake” mode to be problematic. For consistent results I always have the dial in “Toast” mode, which works really well for baking cookies or cornbread. Bake mode should just not be use!
