Open Thread: Belavi Rattan Bar Cart

Last fall, Aldi introduced a product I’d never seen them sell before: a wooden bar cart. Similar to an old-fashioned tea trolley that can be loaded up with china, tea, and food and then wheeled into the parlor, a bar cart can be filled with bottles of wine, glasses, and even all the things you need in order to make cocktails.

Bar carts seem to have been a thing during the early to mid-twentieth century, and then they faded in popularity, especially with many newer, larger homes featuring big built-in bar counters. I’ve seen built-in bars in many finished basements or in short pass-through hallways between family rooms and formal dining rooms in some houses. When I was a kid, one of my friend’s houses had a large bar counter that was a visual centerpiece in the main floor family room.

Still, bar carts are apparently experiencing a comeback, as evidenced by the fact that Aldi is now selling another bar cart. This one features wicker trays and attached bottle and wine glass holders.

It’s sold under the Belavi brand. This is not a company but rather is the private label Aldi uses for various outdoor products such as patio dining tables, deck boxes, wicker patio sets, and more. Because the Belavi label features products to be used in the great outdoors — say, on a deck, porch, or patio — it’s assumed this is meant to be used outside. I don’t see why you couldn’t also use this cart indoors. That makes it a fairly versatile piece of furniture.

What We Know:

Belavi Rattan Bar Cart

Wine and glasses not included.

The Belavi Rattan Bar Cart (Product Code: 708817) cost $89.99 in April of 2023. That’s on the lower end of prices for rattan or wicker bar carts on Amazon.

This is an Aldi Find, so it’s only in stores for a short time. Each store receives one shipment, and after that sells out, they’re gone. Aldi does not offer online ordering for products that are not in stock at your local store.

Here’s more information about the bar cart, according to Aldi:

  • Dimensions: 33.46″ x 30.3″ x 18.11″
  • Includes locking caster wheels for easy transport
  • Features attached bottle and wine glass holder
  • All-weather wicker trays and powder coated steel frame
  • Easy assembly
  • Weight limit per tray: 50 lbs.
  • Comes with a one-year warranty

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t purchased this bar cart, so we don’t know how easily it assembles, how well it performs, or how it holds up to use. Also, at the time of writing, Aldi had not yet published information about who makes this cart or who services the warranty. We write open threads so readers can talk about their experiences with Aldi products.
