Open Thread: Belavi Wooden Raised Planter

Last Updated on April 3, 2024

EDITOR’S NOTE 1: Updated for 2024.

EDITOR’S NOTE 2: Aldi sometimes sells a Belavi Mini Raised Planter, which you can read about here

I love buying gardening supplies from Aldi. Over the years, I’ve gotten a raised garden bed, walk-in greenhouse, 4-tier greenhouse, ladder plant stand, and numerous planters from the discount grocer. When I saw a wooden raised planter in the recent Aldi ad this spring, I knew I wanted to get one of those as well.

However, I showed up at my favorite local store within 60-90 minutes of opening on the day specials are scheduled to hit shelves, and my store was already out of the limited number of raised planters they had received. The employee I spoke with said they only got three, and they sold out quickly after opening.

Perhaps it wasn’t meant to be. This is a common problem when shopping at Aldi. The disappointment can be real sometimes.

So, instead of writing a full review of the wooden raised planter as I intended to do, for now I’ll have to settle for offering this open thread instead. We write open threads about products we haven’t yet gotten our hands on to review, and our goal with posts like this is to offer a place for people to share about their experiences with a product.

What We Know:

Belavi Wooden Raised Planter

The 2021 model. This is selling for only $39.99 in 2024.

The Belavi Wooden Raised Planter (product code 804103 in 2021; Product Code: 830966 in 2024) cost $39.99 in April of 2024. That’s $10 less than the $49.99 it sold for in April of 2023 and in April of 2021. Belavi is an Aldi house brand that includes garden and patio products such as ladder plant stands and gazebos.

This is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Aldi does not offer online ordering for its specials, so after this sells out at your local store, you’re out of luck.

The 2021 model.

Previous years’ models came with a three-year warranty serviced by Protel, a common warranty provider for Aldi products. We don’t yet know if the 2024 raised bed has a warranty.

What We Don’t Know:

We haven’t purchased this planter, so we don’t know how well it works or how easily it assembles. We write open threads to give readers a place to discuss Aldi products.

  1. The screws make it very difficult to put together

  2. Hubby had limited difficult with assembly but his handyman skills kicked in. He reinforced with screws and glue the first one (purchased 2). The other was easier but without some carpentry skills you might have moderate difficulty. By the way nothings labeled just diagram with numbers. That would have been helpful. Overall attractive haven’t place soil yet Will updated review after planted is filled.

  3. I got one here in my local store. It was super easy to put together. However, it is very cheaply made. I usually love my Aldi Finds, but this one is a little disappointing. I had to get out the wood glue and repair two spots while assembling. And once we fully assembled it in sat it outside I came out one day and the side panel was coming off because the panels inside go in so tight and pushed it away from the nails. I will have to put a screw or something in it to hold it together. I’m also wondering how well that finish is really going to hold up under rain and weather.

  4. I did not find this easy to put together at all. It may be my skill level but the bolt screws weren’t long enough and I had to buy longer ones. Then I couldn’t get it to hold the wood slats so after a few days the plastic liner and dirt ended up on the ground. I am most unhappy and now have to rebuild the bottom part of the planter so it will hold dirt. If I could get my money back I would. What a disappointment. I have managed Other Aldi gardening beds and arches just fine and are happy with previous products.

  5. This was simple to put together but some of the screw holes were a little tight for the screws. Although we loved it, it collapsed after 3 weeks of use. It came with a 3 year warranty but unfortunately they are completely out of stock. So they said they would give us a full refund via paypal.

  6. Kristin Batchelor

Ours broke after just a couple of weeks and our plants got dumped on the ground. I usually love Aldi products, but this one is a huge disappointment.

  7. Aline Kolankowski

I purchased this and it was a nightmare to put together, and it started to come apart while I was building it. My neighbor helped me get it finished. I had it planted with herbs and I needed to move it and the whole thing feel apart. Very disappointed, very poor quality. I’m waiting to see what the warranty company says.

  8. I had a AVM bust which caused a stroke and brain surgery and I put it together it was easy. I haven’t planted in it yet it’s going under a covered porch and I’m putting carrots in it.

  9. I purchased this raised planter and I don’t understand what they are talking about for the leg assembly. First instruction says take leg 3 and 4 and theycall them rt and left. I see no difference between the 4 legs. No idea how how to do this. Usually assembly pieces have numbers or letters. This has nothing. Help@

    • I’m having the same problem as I type. They also aren’t square so I don’t know which side is supposed to attach to the longer and shorter sides of the bed.

  10. The instructions for assembly are not detailed, and can be left up to interpretation, and the drawing is not clearly labeled. I had to try several iterations before I was able to assemble it the way it was intended to be done. There were also two nuts missing from my kit.

  11. After reading the comments and opening my box to find no instructions and bolts scattered everywhere, I’m glad this was a clearance item. 🤣
I’m thinking of just building something totally different with the pieces.

  12. 2023 purchaser, wish I had read this first, would not have purchased. Easy to put together but one side lines up nicely and the other doesn’t. Since I did read this before I had planted anything I’m going to dismantle it put a sealer on and reinforce the bottom panels before planting. Not handy enough to fix the side that doesn’t line up so I’ll have to live with it.

  13. I’m also struggling to understand the very sparse directions. Very little in the way of graphics showing the pieces in sufficient detail and their connections. Even the two bolts used are not clearly defined. How about next time, add “Smaller” and “larger”

  14. Purchased two of these in April 2023. No issue assembling however they warped after a wet spring and had to be reinforced with many screws. Cheap wood and not much area to use to add the extra screws. Most likely I will move them to the yard and cut the legs off to just use as planter boxes. Disappointing for $49.99 each.

  15. To correct some planter box warping issues, I attached 8-4” corner brackets. Hopefully this stopped the warping. It has made the planter much sturdier and easy to move. I also glued the base boards after the base collapsed.

  16. I bought three this spring. All three have fallen apart. So disappointed.

  17. Ugh! Came here trying to find instructions because ours are missing. Trying to fix this for my mom. Her significant other tried to assemble, but it doesn’t seem like the screw holes were in the right place. The bottom slats keep falling through, and don’t all fit flat inside; I will need to saw a slat to narrow it, and attach all with screws, I think. Is it even worth it? Wish me luck! Haha!

  18. This is returning to Aldi the week of April 10th, 2024.

  19. 2024 – receipt says 830966 Raised Planter has a 3 year warranty. I haven’t opened/assembled our 2 yet, but will add later if anything has changed from previous comments.
