Aldi sells a lot of outdoor decor under the Gardenline label, including plenty of furniture. We’ve also seen pavilions and gazebos, too, but this canopy appears to be something a little different.
What We Know:
The Gardenline Instant Canopy (product code 1537) is an ALDI Find, which means it’s only in stores for a limited time. It retails for $59.99, which looks to be a lot less than other instant canopies of its size. The canopy’s footprint is an even square, measuring 10 feet by 10 feet, and it is 9 feet tall. Depending on the sun’s location, that means it’s good for up to 100 square feet of shade, and it does have 30+ SPF UV protection. In addition, the canopy fabric is water resistant, making it a potential tool for getting out of the elements.
According to Aldi, there is no assembly required. The canopy uses large, pinch-free push buttons along telescoping legs, which lock in position. Aldi also claims it folds up easily, and it comes with a carrying case with wheels to facilitate travel and storage. We suspect you’ll need the wheels, as canopies of this type tend to weigh a fair bit.
The canopy is backed by a 2-year warranty. The warranty is serviced by TDC USA, Inc.
What We Don’t Know:
There is no manual online at this point, so we don’t know all the nuts and bolts about how this sets up. We don’t know the weight of the canopy, either, although canopies of this size tend to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 35-45 pounds. Also, since 2019 appears to be the debut year for this particular product (we’ve never seen it before), we don’t know what to expect from it, especially since we’re not entirely sure who makes it.

I have this canopy, we got it for our deck for shade. We installed it which was pretty easy and standard for a 10×10 canopy. We screwed ours in because we’d know we’d be using it a lot however I would not recommend it. Just completely collapsed and broke due to rain! Rain! Isn’t that the point of a canopy for shade and rain coverage? will be returning.
It is a pop up canopy! Not a permanent fixture! They are not designed to be left up for days.
I am a craft vendor, and bought this as a replacement canopy; I had been wanting a different one that was 10×10 with straight sides. I couldn’t say no for the inexpensive price tag. I have only set it up and used it a few times so far, but I am very pleased with it – easy to set up, and being someone who often has to set up by themselves, I greatly appreciated how little force I had to use to lock the “roof” corner mechanisms into place. Normally I’d have to get help or practically dislocate a shoulder to get my old one locked into place.
I haven’t had to put it to test in the rain yet for vending, but we had it setup outside for several days when some rain came, and it seemed to to hold up great. All in all, I would say it is a great value, and so far reliable.
How high off the ground is the bottom edge of the canopy?
I bought one for a camping trip. Set it up the first time, concerned that the canopy material was thin but needed to block out the sun. It rained and the canopy frame completely collapsed. I could not even get it to fold up enough to take back for a return. I had to throw it in the dumpster at the campground. I sent the company pictures to show the aftermath and I was pretty much told I was out of luck to get a replacement or a refund because weather damage is not covered under warranty. If a canopy cannot withstand a little rain, it should not be sold. Do not buy one if you plan to use it outside.

We got this for our wedding. There was a light rain forecast(15% for 5 hours with less than 20mm of rain) it collapsed as we were leaving the venue. I would not recommend this product as we only used it once and it broke during a light drizzled. We will try to return it
Absolute trash. Was setting it up for the 5th time in a month and pieces of it just started snapping apart as it was unfolding. No extra force applied, multiple people setting it up every time, no exposure to extreme weather. Just a piece of junk. Do not waste your money.
I 100% agree with some of the other reviews. Purchase this in a local Aldi as the weather here is oppressively hot. Had it for 3 weeks and today a train for the first time since we bought it. It was a heavy thunderstorm, but only lasted for a short period of time. When the rain stopped, the type of a jumbled mess. I examined her and noticed if a metal arm for broken. Please note… it was the metal that broke. Very very cheaply crafted. I should have saved the $60 and come up with another plan. This is a piece of crap…buyer beware!
Used at the beach 5 days in a row. Takes 3 min to set up. Rainstorm with wind one day, held up fine. Great price. Only complaint is top is black radiates heat wish it was a lighter color
We grabbed two of these for use at a military retirement pool party. There were only intended to be used as additional side for the kids around the patio. The caterer brought his own EZ-up 10×10 in the standard white and there was a very large venue tent setup on the lawn for dining.
Turns out that it was the hottest day of 2019! The large commercial twnt was a sauna/greenhouse. No one used it. You were better off in the open air and sun. The poor caterer was roasting in his personal greenhouse of hell.
The two Gardenline canopies provided excellent, cool shade due to their UV reflection! I suppose it we the silver lining…
We have used it several times and just this past weekend we used it to shade our campsite picnic table.
It rained. A lot. Although the canopy is intended as a shade and not a rain shelter it did ok. No collapsing… Some drips along the stitched seams… I gave one of them to the host of the retirement party and now I wish I could get two more!
We have been using our Gardenline weekly for 2 years at Farmers Market and have no problem. It’s been through wind and rain. Ours has a vented peak and an extra crossmember on each side compared to other canopies we’ve had over the years which adds much more stability. The wheeled bag is a great help as well.
Would definitely buy again!
one of the connectors cracked on the rib joint and it took gompany a week to tell me they can’t help because the connector is unavailable, so for one little plastic part I can not use.
