Open Thread: Huntington Home Expandable Under-Sink Shelf

Sometimes the best items are the ones you didn’t even realize you needed. I remember, for example, the first time I drove a car with cruise control. After years of driving cars that didn’t have it, I quickly discovered that there was a really good reason why it was, at that point, a standard feature. Certainly, my leg appreciated not having to push down on the accelerator the whole trip. (Anyone who has a car with adaptive cruise control, as I now do, will tell you it’s a similar revelation.)

An under-sink shelf is another thing that, once you try it, might make you wonder how you got by for so long without it.

Some Aldi shoppers might look at an expandable under-sink shelf and wonder: do I really need this? Aldi would say “absolutely” — they’re selling it, after all — but the truth is that some shoppers really might benefit from reconfiguring the storage below the sink. The space under a sink, after all, can be a Wild West of stacked pots, pans, and other things. (If you have young children in the house, it’s a good idea to keep your cleaning supplies out of kid reach, which means keeping them off of the under-sink shelf.) Not only does having a jumble of stuff under the sink make it harder to find things, but you can also damage various items as you rifle through them.

What We Know:

The Huntington Home Expandable Under-Sink Shelf is an Aldi Find. That means it’s only in stores for a short time, and once it’s gone, it’s gone, at least until it comes back … which may or may not happen. At the time of this post, the shelf costs $16.99. That’s on the lower end for these kinds of shelves.

Features include:

  • Twelve removable and adjustable shelf panels
  • Rubber nonslip feet
  • Expandable width to customize to fit your cabinet space
  • Adjustable shelf height and width
  • Folded dimensions: 16.6″ W x 11.5″ D x 15.35″ H
  • Expanded dimensions: 28.35″ W x 11.5″ D x 15.35″ H
  • Available in Gray or White

What We Don’t Know:

As best as we can tell, this product is new to Aldi. That means we don’t know how well it assembles, how sturdy it is, or how long it lasts.

Under-sink shelves often have a cutout on the top shelf to accommodate the sink’s plumbing; however, I don’t see that on these shelves. Hopefully it will sit low enough that the top shelf will still fit underneath that drain pipe! As a precaution, I would suggest that Aldi customers interested in these shelve measure the distance from the floor of the sink cabinet to the underside of the sink’s drain pipe, and compare that to the height of these shelves.

  2. Aldi under the sink shelves are excellent. I was hesitant to purchase them and I’m that I did buy 2 boxes. If I can find them I’ll buy 4 more shelves. The bars come apart and are adjustable. You can choose the height of the shelves and the heavy plastic pieces are moveable. Very pleased.

  3. This would be a nice product. Unfortunately one of the bars was missing from the box rendering the item useless. Hopefully I can return it.
