Open Thread: SOHL Furniture Accent Bench

EDITOR’S NOTE: Updated for 2023.

Back in 2019, Aldi released a little piece of furniture called the SOHL Furniture Accent Cabinet. It came in teal, and it became an instant sensation among the Aldi superfan crowd. Pictures popped up all over social media of people putting their little teal cabinet in all parts of the house.

Aldi seemed to see what a hit it had on its hands, because the company has since released a steady parade of SOHL Furniture Accent furniture. First it was offering the cabinet in different colors, then selling a table, and then a single-door cabinet.

Now Aldi is releasing its latest new piece of furniture in this mini-line: an accent bench.

What We Know:

The SOHL Furniture Accent Bench is an Aldi Find, which means it’s only in stores for a short time. Once it’s gone, it’s gone, and you won’t be able to find it in stores until it comes back, probably the next year. Aldi doesn’t ship products online, either, so if you can’t find it in the store, you won’t be able to get it otherwise.

As of early 2023, the bench costs $99.99. That’s actually a decrease from the 2022 price of $129.99.

What We Don’t Know:

Aldi hasn’t offered much information on this bench. There is no information in the Aldi digital ad about it, so we don’t have any specs or dimensions, any numbers on weight limit, or any other features. Aldi also doesn’t list any warranty information about the bench on its warranty site. We expect this information will be on the bench box itself — and we expect the bench will have a warranty — but until the product physically hits stores, we won’t be able to learn more about any of these things.

In addition, we haven’t put it through the paces ourselves, so we don’t know how easily it assembles or how well it holds up. We created this open thread for people to share their experiences.

Do you have experience with this bench? Let us know in the comments.

  1. How can one plan whether or not to buy the SOHL Furniture Accent Bench without having the DIMENSIONS?

  2. Has anyone bought one of these yet that can give the dimensions? Or just give a review of what they think of it overall?

    • It’s very difficult to assemble and when I almost finished putting it together except for the back and the doors I find out that the doors don’t fit!!! I am so upset. Aldi is refunding my money but they don’t have a replacement.

      • The accent bench has very difficult to read picture instructions. After I finished up to about Step 6, the predrilled holes on the left panel, middle left panel, middle right panel, and right panel do not match the predrilled holes on the Top Panel so I was not able to affix the assembly together. The thin board back panel with predrilled holes does not match the size of the back of the assembly. It was a frustrating experience up to this point. I returned the item to Aldi for refund.

      • Karla, I had the same thing happen and I thot I did something wrong…do u return bench or just tell them doors don’t fit? Thx!

      • I believe you may have put the bottom bar on upside down. If you would have flipped it so the overhang was going down and not up it would have worked.

The Aldi in Milford, MA has them for sale. The dimensions are:
    15.35 deep X 42.13″ long X 20.87″ tall.

  4. The box says the weight limit is up to 200 Lbs.

  5. I bought accent bench at my local aldi and dimensions are 42.13 x 15.35 x 20.87 inches

  6. Is the cushion removable?

  7. I purchased this bench, on sale for $64, two weeks ago. There were dimensions listed on the box which I just trashed. 41″W x 15″D X 20″H.

It’s got many parts to assemble requiring you to move it in a way that if you don’t move it correctly, like I did, you could damage or beak it. For example, the sides are securing using locking screws (much like ones you find with IKEA furniture). I had to flip the bench upright and made the mistake of lifting it from one side, towards the other. This caused the side to bend and the locking screw holes were compromised as a result. I removed the side, filled the screw holes with an industrial adhesive and out the screws back in. Once it dried I added the side back and added the adhesive to areas were the side touched the bench.
I still wasn’t happy with it’s sturdiness and I don’t think my error caused the lack there of so I ran and got L shaped brackets to secure. The brackets came with screws which I used on the areas that would be thick enough (pre-drilling first). For the thinner areas I purchased a smaller screw and pre-drilled.
The doors: they attached in a cheap way. I tried hanging them and they would not hang level no matter how I fastened the screws. In the meantime I’m going to look for baskets to put in the cubby and leave the middle one open for my cat, Eddy.

I have pictures but can’t seem to upload them.

  8. Without the cushion would it be a good coffee table?

  9. Does anyone have a copy of the instructions manual? There was not one in the box. I called and emailed the manufacturer but I’m still waiting on a response.

  10. Can someone please share the instructions for assembling this bench? I just opened the box, and it did not include the MUCH needed directions.

I bought this bench from a charity resale store, fully assembled but with no cushion. It’s attractive and matches my dinette set. However, I paid $100 or it assembled with no cushion. W here can I find a cushion and how much. I most likely paid too much but it was a good charity so I won’t complain. I would just like to find the cushion,
