How to Make Everything Bagel Chicken with Aldi Seasoning

Last year Aldi introduced a seasoning mix that was an instant hit among fans. Stonemill Everything Bagel Seasoning (originally called Stonemill Who Needs the Bagel? Seasoning) consists of all the toppings that typically go on an everything bagel: sesame seeds, sea salt, garlic, onion, and poppy seeds.

It quickly became popular among Aldi customers, and this fall it was voted an Aldi Fan Favorite. Common uses for everything bagel seasoning include sprinkling it on salads, avocados, eggs, sandwiches, or soups.

Stonemill Everything Bagel Seasoning

While those are all great ways to use everything bagel seasoning, one of my family’s favorites is actually a baked chicken entrée coated with the seasoning and topped with a sauce featuring cream cheese and green onions.

I originally found this recipe at 40 Aprons, and I modified it, using fewer chicken breasts so the bagel seasoning and sauce really stand out.

Everything Bagel Chicken

Ingredients:

For the chicken:

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 medium chicken breasts (I cut them in half for more reasonable portion sizes, but you can leave them whole if you prefer.)
  • salt (optional)
  • approximately 1/4 cup Everything Bagel Seasoning

For the sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • approximately 1 teaspoon Stonemill Everything Bagel Seasoning
  • 4 oz. (half a package) cream cheese, softened
  • 6 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup half and half or milk

The seasoned chicken, ready to go into the oven. Pay no attention to the old, ugly baking pan.

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Lay the chicken breasts in a baking dish coated with cooking spray. Brush the chicken with butter on both sides and sprinkle with a small amount of salt on both sides. The everything bagel seasoning contains salt, so you won’t need to add much salt, or you can even skip the added salt all together.
  3. Sprinkle the chicken with half of the everything bagel seasoning. Use tongs to flip the chicken over and sprinkle on the other half of the seasoning. I rarely measure the everything bagel seasoning, instead just eyeballing it and sprinkling until the chicken is evenly and moderately covered.
  4. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until the internal temperature is 165 degrees.
  5. While the chicken is baking, make the sauce. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a medium bowl. Whisk in the everything bagel seasoning, cream cheese, green onions, and half and half or milk. Whisk until smooth, or use a hand mixer to get a really smooth sauce.
  6. When the chicken is done baking, let it stand for 5 minutes, and then serve with the green onion cream cheese sauce. Add additional Stonemill Everything Bagel Seasoning or green onions as garnishes if desired.

Serve your Everything Bagel Chicken with a bagged Caesar salad kit from Aldi for an impressive meal.

This meal serves four people, with each person eating half of a chicken breast. If you have a really hungry family or want to feed a larger group, simply double the recipe.

The first time I made this recipe, I poured the sauce directly over the chicken in the casserole dish it baked in, and the chicken juices made the sauce watery. Now I prefer to plate everyone’s chicken and then serve the sauce in a bowl on the side, so people can spoon out their own fresh sauce.

You’re also not locked into using only chicken breasts. The first time I made this, I used boneless chicken thighs because they were what I had, and everyone loved the meal.

This is a popular meal in my house, and my family requests it often. It’s easy to assemble and doesn’t take too long to bake, and there are rarely leftovers. Best of all, this is a pretty healthy recipe, using whole and nutritious ingredients such as chicken and green onions, and you even get a dairy serving with the cream cheese and milk or half and half.

My favorite way to serve Everything Bagel Chicken with a side salad. My family is partial to the bagged Caesar salad kits Aldi sells. Chop up a fruit salad for dessert and you’ve got yourself a complete and balanced meal.

Enjoy!
