Aldi planners have a bit of a cult following. Aldi sometimes sells student planners in the late summer that are organized around the school year, while general annual planners or even themed planners such as parent planners usually come out in late December or early January. Aldi planners are sold under its Pembrook private label, which encompasses a variety of office supplies including wall calendars, greeting cards, and even paper shredders.

The latest batch of general-purpose planners hit Aldi store shelves this week, and I liked them enough that I decided to buy one.

When I was in college, I religiously used the spiral planners the university gave to us. Now, though, most planners I see in stores don’t suit my needs, or they’re so heavily goal-oriented that they feel unsustainable. So I’ve made do for years with a simple pocket-sized lined notebook where I jot down my daily to-do lists or whatever else I need to write down or remember. I like being able to write whatever I want in my notebook without having to fit things into certain categories that may not apply to me.

The most recent Aldi Pembrook Premium Planner is the type of planner I prefer, with a simple layout ideal for writing whatever I want to write.

There are just a few types of pages in this planner. The first page has space for personal information such as your own name, phone number, email address, along with information for an emergency contact.

The print is a light color that doesn’t show up well in photos, but there is space to write the week/date at the top. The left page has space for writing priorities, goals, a to-do list, and meal planning. The right page has space for a to-do list, notes, next week and upcoming, and habit tracking. The majority of the planner features four pages dedicated to each week (with two pages at a time visible when the planner is opened up and sitting flat). There is space to write in the weekly date at the top of each page, with a good amount of open space for each day of the week. There are also spaces to list priorities, goals, to-do lists, meal planning, notes, and information for the next week and upcoming weeks. There’s also space for tracking habits.

The planner’s final section includes a good number of pages for general notes.

The only slight knock against this planner is that the text is a light color. The text shows up better in person than it does in photos, but it’s still not very dark.

Otherwise, this looks like a useful planner, and I like the leather-look cover, the color, and the simple text on the front. It’s classy-looking and feels sturdy enough to hopefully last through the year. This planner looks promising enough that I might buy another one during my next Aldi run if they’re still in stock.

The Verdict:

The Pembrook Premium Planner is a simple, versatile 12-month planner with an undated format, so you can write in dates and use it as needed. It features two different full-spread layouts per week with space for daily notes, plus goal planning, meal planning, habit tracking, and more. If you want a practical planner that isn’t extremely complicated, this one is worth a look.
