I’m a huge fan of Cheez-Its. Whether we’re having a family gathering or are just relaxing at home, chances are there is a box in the pantry. I have really gotten into the extra toasty Cheez-Its because of their unique flavor.
I’ve always wondered what imitations there were out there. Then, as I was walking through the snack foods aisle at Aldi, what did I happen to see but Aldi Cheez-Its.
Savoritz Baked Cheese Crackers are a Regular Buy, which means you can find them in stores all the time. At the time of this post, they cost $3.29 for a 21-ounce family sized box, or about 15.6 cents an ounce. I didn’t see any sizes but that.
There are three flavors: original, extra toasty, and white cheddar. I tried all three.

Every serving has 150 calories, 8g of total fat, 1g of saturated fat, 230mg of sodium, 19g of carbohydrates, and no sugars. The extra toasty ones also have 20 servings and 28 crackers per serving, as well as 150 calories, 8g of total fat, 1g of saturated fat, 230mg of sodium, and 19g of carbohydrates. However, with these, there is less than 1g of total sugars and added sugars. The white cheddar ones have 20 servings per container, but the serving size is only 25 crackers. There are 150 calories, 7g of total fat, 1g of saturated fat, 210mg of sodium, 18g of carbohydrates, and no sugars. As for allergens, all of these contain wheat and milk.
As usual with Aldi knockoffs, the boxes shamelessly resemble their name brand counterparts.
Original:
The Original Cheez-its are by far the most popular. They have a classic recognizable flavor, and while the Savoritz crackers maintain the flavor, it isn’t identical. I actually feel like these crackers may have more flavor to them than the original Cheez-its. These may be the new ones I end up getting in place of Cheez-its, both because of the flavor and price.
Extra Toasty:
After discovering the Extra Toasty Cheez-its, they’ve become my go-to snack food. So I was pretty exited to see how the knockoffs held up. And just like the Savoritz Originals, I felt like these had a tad more of the “toasty flavor” the box advertises. The differences on all of these aren’t extreme, but if you had both brands in front of you and tried one from each box, you might notice the subtle differences.
White Cheddar:
This was the only flavor I was new to. But I enjoyed it. These were the messiest, with cheese powder coating the crackers, but they weren’t bad. I can’t really compare them to the name brand versions, since I’ve never tried them, but the Savoritz versions were solid. The rest of my family thought they were their favorite, and this was the first box to empty out.
The Verdict:
The Savoritz Baked Cheese Crackers are a fun Aldi knockoff to try, both because they’re cheaper, and because the flavor is there. I would like to find a smaller box size that isn’t family sized, but other than that, I have no complaints.
Most people’s generic Cheez-Its are totally off the mark. Aldi’s are very close, and one feels that they could have got even closer; but the Aldi crackers are a little less greasy and a little less salty, and this reminds us that the same (and/or “a little less sweet”) can be said of most of Aldi’s generics, so that one thinks that there may be an implicit rebuke of American tastes.
I, too, prefer the extra-toasty flavor, but I find that it is very inconsistent from one box to the next, now lighter, now darker.
Extra Toasty Cheez-Its have changed. They’re no longer my favorite salty junk snack. Savoritz Extra Toasty look like Cheez-Its but there is no cheese flavor at all. I tried to appreciate them as they are but no. I gave them away. They’re not worth the calories because they aren’t satisfying.
I haven’t tried Extra Toasty Cheez-Its, but being a big Cheez-Its fan, I thought I’d try the Savoritz. The day I bought, the Extra Toasty were cheaper than the Original for some reason, so I bought those. Good texture and the right amount of salt for my taste, but I agree with Curl that the cheese taste is lacking. I wouldn’t say “no cheese flavor at all,” but there isn’t much.
In a way, I’m glad. If they were truly as delicious as Sunshine Cheese-Its, it would be hard for me to resist buying them every time I go to the store. That would be very bad for my waistline.
I agree with Curl. These taste like burnt saltines
The White Cheddar are this families favorite. We have enjoyed them for quite some time, purchasing two boxes at a time. But this last box is awful! They taste stale and very little, if any cheesy taste. I may try one more box to see if this was just a fluke or if this is how they are making them now. They will definitely lose a lot of customers.
I was very disappointed by the White Cheddar crackers. They are bland, far too short on cheese flavor.
