Savoritz Parmesan Crisps

I’m always on the lookout for healthy snacks to eat at home or to pack in my kids’ lunch boxes. Aldi has increased its selection of good-for-you foods during the last couple of years, and one product that gets a thumbs up in terms of health is the Savoritz Parmesan Crisps. They’re made with simple, whole ingredients and contain no carbs, and they are surprisingly versatile in terms of all the ways you can serve them.

These cost $2.89 for a 2.11-oz. package at the time of publication. They come in original or jalapeno flavors. They’re a little on the pricey side, at around 96 cents per serving, but they’re much healthier than potato chips. These are Regular Buys that are available at Aldi year round.

I got the original flavor. Ingredients are simple: aged Parmesan cheese (part skim milk, cheese cultures, salt, and enzymes).

I didn’t buy the jalapeno flavor because my family doesn’t like spicy food, but the ingredients are simple with that option as well: aged Parmesan cheese (part skim milk, cheese cultures, salt, and enzymes), and jalapeno.

People with allergies should be aware the crisps contain milk.

One serving is 12 crisps (18 grams), and each pouch contains about three servings. For both flavors, one serving nets you 100 calories, 7 grams of total fat (11% of your daily value), 4.5 grams of saturated fat (18% DV), 20 mg of cholesterol (7% DV), 230 mg of sodium (10% DV), 0 grams of carbs, 0 grams of sugars, and 9 grams of protein.

The package says the crisps are “oven baked in small batches,” with “no cheap fillers or grains, never microwaved or fried.” Aldi describes them as ideal for a charcuterie board or paired with a gourmet wine. They’re also good as a soup or salad topping, or you can simply eat them plain. They are ready to eat and require no refrigeration, making them a good on-the-go snack.

I enjoy them as a substitute for croutons on salad or on top of tomato soup, but they’re also tempting to eat straight out of the bag, with a satisfying crunch.

The Verdict:

Savoritz Parmesan Crisps come in original or jalapeno flavors. The original flavor, which my family tried, is made with Parmesan cheese and nothing else. The jalapeno flavor has just Parmesan cheese and jalapeno, so ingredients are as whole and simple as they get. They’re great as salad or soup toppings or with a charcuterie board, but they’re also satisfyingly crunchy and delicious when eaten directly out of the bag. Recommended if you’re looking for a zero-carb alternative to potato chips.

I just opened a bag of the Jalapeno crisps – I won’t be buying them again. Disappointed in flavor. They look and taste burnt.

  2. Just opened the plain parmesan. Way too salty for me. Should have looked at the packaging more closely. One serving is about 19 chips and 370 mg of salt.
